ok before you guys tell me to search the forum... i have :) for a few days.

i get the general idea that i should NOT go for drilled discs because of cracking issues.

i have about £400 to spend... so can you guys share some wisdom for the noobie plz :)

i am running 350 bhp and dont plan on taking it on the track for a while so brakes are just for fast road use.

ive found ferrodos ds 2500\'s for £130 for the set but am stuck on which discs to get!

thanks

Perhaps grooved discs (20-40 grooves) would be a good idea, also use braided brake hoses along with performance pads. This should improve breaking considerably. Most of the breaking is done at the front but few people have been upgrading their rear calipers to 4 pot too.

Reminds me of that guy I saw with his FD3S @ JAE this year, 8 pot calipers and the car doesn\'t even get driven as its just for show.

bigdawg

yea grooved is what ive been searching for... but the cheapest ive found are £200 and there just standard... got any links or any deals?

The deal I got was about a year back from one my local suppliers. I paid around the £400 mark but that included 3G discs front and rear with 20 grooves and Mintex pads. But in my opinion I wasn\'t impressed with the Mintex pads that much.

Hawk pads and Racing Brake grooved discs from Mazda Rotary Parts (Clive) - do the job for me on track. I run braided hoses and Castrol SRF fluid too, but I don\'t think you\'d need that unless you\'re planning on getting them proper hot.

They seem to be fine for me at 310bhp, although they definitely get a bit hot on track!

Many high performance cars leave the factory with drilled discs, its down to the quality and preparation of the metal used.
Taking a standard disc and drilling some holes in it ( ebay quality ) is an invitation to cracking.  Buy good quality discs, get good performance.

you still got the abs onit
am trying to race prep my rex but the budget got very tight
have to ditch the abs but not sure how well the brakes qould last after 20 laps

lockwood77

Yep, ABS still working, kicked in a few times today at Rockingham!

Brakes seemed fine for 20 min sessions, needed a bit of heat, but then on the way home I\'m getting a massive knocking noise and vibration in the brake pedal, so dunno what that is!?

hairyhoover

what are the hawk pads like for brake dust?

lockwood77

Seem pretty good actually, certainly no worse than others I\'ve used.
