if it doesn\'t, am i going to have to go to certain insurance companies that offer it? Can anyone give me a heads up on which companies do offer it?

It sometimes is part of a fully comp insurance. Make sure it has it in the insurance document because it isn\'t always added on the policy. My 1st gen doesn\'t have it but my FD does ! They are both fully comp !

You often get it with fully comp. Normaly there are conditions such as you need to be a certain age, the car must also have it\'s own policy ie the owner must have it insured. You also maybe required notify your company that you intend on driving this other car.

dthebuk

well its not that i intend on driving a specific car. Its just so i can drive another car if need be. My dad has it and so does my mum. They can both drive pretty much any car

third party extension. comes with full comp policies if you are the policy holder and over 25. check your insurance scheduale to confirm you have it as not all companies do it any longer.

dthebuk

are you sure its over 25?
is there no way at all that i can get it? im 20

you can get it some places at 20 mate but there few and far between try quinn direct i know they do it for 20 year olds but really you gotta be 25 and in some cases you gan get away with 23 but it\'s slim pickings for a 20 year old mate trust me i tried to do what your thinking of doing:D oh and im working nights before any one brings up the time this was posted, Adam :)

its majoritivly 25. some companies may do it for younger people, but its unlikely for the exact reason you want it. most companies are now starting to remove the cover all together because it is such a huge risk for insurance companies. Basically its only designed for emergency use to borrow someones car briefly, however people use it to drive other cars all the time. With this, the insurer is responsible for cars they dont even know about! Its one of many reasons why premiums are so high these days.

Remember (this is what people forget) if you have the cover, its only to cover 3rd party only on a car that is not registered in your name. The car doesnt need to have insurance elsewhere at the same time, but does need to be road legal - tax/tested. (it doesnt need insurance as your 3rd party cover is doing that. while your not driving it, its not your responsibility anyway!)

best thing to do is because of your age is to speak to insurance brokers rather then companies directly.

All the policy i\'ve seen require the vehicle to be insured with it\'s own policy. And if they didn\'t you wouldn\'t be able to leave the car till you have it off public roads.
Also i think it is to stop people buying one car and insuring it fully comp than driving around in another on your third party insurance.

thats a common mis-conception. another insurance policy running on the vehicle will be ineffectual if the driver is using the 3rd party extension. it is true that an insurance policy will be required for leaving the vbehicle as the 3rd party extension only covers the car while its being driven.

however they dont have to both be inplace. its highly advisable to it tho!

this is another reason why the cover is being pulled, as its pretty confusing to know who is covering what, etc.
