Hey

can anyone tell me why the 1st gen has an air pump and lots of center silencers and cats etc

Must lose alot of power

thanks

MikeLMR

its all for emmisions ... all the 3 gens of rx7 have air pumps and multiple exhaust boxes (the later ones have Cats too)

james01uk

Thanks for the reply

is there any way of getting round using them?

MikeLMR

1st gens only require a visible smoke test so rip em off and stick a decent exhaust on there. (they are a bit expesive though)

Can you tell me what exhausts are any good?

i.e power and Sound

the only one I have been warned off buying is the janspeed one ... the others all have there benafits and disadvantages.

Rotechnics - looks alright and is fairly cheap but the bends aren\'t that great (they are all crumpled)
Racing beat - they offer 2 versions and they are meant to be very good but also very expensive
Tiger - I\'m not 100% sure but I think this is the same as the Rotech one
Custom - a bit expensive and rotary exhausts are hard to get right due to the noise levels.
WGT - again fairly expensive and meant to be very good, although they were having problems with the supplier having lost all the jigs when I wanted to order one over a year ago.

I think thats about it off the top of my head.

Carl (see the hayward rotary add at the top of this forum) is meant to be working on an exhaust system for the 1st gen so he might have somthing interesting to add to this discussion :)

Thanks for the reply

You seem to be the 1st gen man to ask all the questions.

So here goes :-)

I am going to Rotechnics on tuesday and am interested in their 1st gen tuning. I looked on their website about replacing the Carb with a Dellorto DHLA48

Do you know if this is worth doing?  Does it improve the performance a great deal

Also are there any recomended modifications to improve handling etc

Thanks

MikeLMR

I can\'t comment on how the cars run with a sidedraft carb and aftermarket exhaust but I should think it\'ll be a huge difference over the standard setup (on top end power anyway)

There are a lot of options to improve the handling, not a lot of choice in the UK though and I ended up getting most parts through the US.
I can\'t comment on how the following parts work yet as I\'ve only just got round to fitting them :)

Tokico 5 way adjustable struts and shocks (got these from WGT and paid a small fortune ... might be cheaper direct from US but I doubt it\'ll be by a lot)
K-MAC uprated front anti roll bar (UK Ebay find)

other than that and the wheels (sensibly sized) + a little more -\'tve camber (reinstalled struts differently) thats about all I have done.

There are plenty more bits available though ... its just a case of how far do you want to go and how much £££\'s you want to spend.

Ok

well i will have some words with Rotechnics
and see what they have to say

Just passed its Mot and i am gonna buy some polyurethane bushes for the front and rear sway bars etc, not sure what difference it will make but we will see :-)

I also am very interested to see if 3rd Gen wheels fit the 1st Gen

I saw a pic of them on one in america but i thought all 3rd Gens are five stud so am not too sure on that.

I am finding it hard to get some wheels which will fit and look nice:-/

RE:Worx

I\'ve got a 48ida downdraught with manifold for 12a and a twin pipe exhaust with stailess rear box that I ran on my race car. I haven\'t done anything with it for years so it can be sold for the right price

Hi,

I would be intersted in them, but I haveno idea on if you need any different throttle cables etc for the carb
also I have no idea how to et them up :-/

RE:Worx

that\'s easy you pay me to fit and set it up!!!

:)

set up for stock throttle cable
carby tuned for bridge port 12a

james01uk

well my car is standard

i would bridge port it but heard it is quite expensive and it needs a fair amount or work at the moment

where do you live anywhere near surrey?
