Hi

my 1st gen used to start on the key but since i put it on axle stands to do the brakes it will not turn over at all.

Nothing happens the lights don\'t even go dim.

Any ideas???

check the obvious stuff first.

is the battery OK ?  has it got plenty of fluid in it
battery terminals  ? tight and not corroded
connection to starter ? again tight and not corroded
solenoid ? give it a tap it might of stuck
check the fusible links which are on the strut top near the battery.

Its just a case of being methodical and working through the systems and eliminating possible faults till there is only one option left.

Check the small wire that connects to the starter motor.
It may have come off.
Kind regards

Hi James,

Are you able to check if the small wire that feeds the starter when the key is turned is connected or indeed if it has an electrical feed when the key is turned ?
All the best Clive

Thanks for all the replies.

I have not got a multimeter so i can not test the starter motor untill tomorrow.

I checked the starter motor and from what i could see both wires are connected.

Didi someone say there is a fuse near the battery?

I topped up the gearbox oil so i may have pulled something off.

there are a few fusible links on the strut top If I recall correctly one of these is for the ignition. As above they are on the passenger side strut top.
