twice the price would be 1200 lol :rollin
Remember if you tuning the Apexi yourself you would have to add a couple of hundred for the datalogit. The motec comes with the software and connector for a laptop already, so not too different, The motec does give you more resolution (more cells) which in turn gives you a more smoother map, the max power you get from both will probably be the same, all depends on who tunes it.

i can add up beeatch hence "almost" being the key word.....

;-)

So all in all a preferred choice if you have no custom ecu or controller already, but if you already have an apexi then a little less justifiable ??

Jit

what is the resolution on an apexi out of interest?

If you have an Apexi then stick with it, if you are still stock then go Motec M2R as the after sales support is very good and its current, where as Apexi god knows what happening with that company if you have a problem

thats like better than microtech too isnt it? so why do some people favour the microtech over the apexi?

BlitzBoy

Microtech you can put it into any rotary like the Motec, the Apexi is only for the FD and thats it, so in theory I could move my Motec into an FC,FB,custom drag two rotor just make up the harness to go with it

Plus Motec you can define how many boost\\vacuum rows you want depending on what map sensor you fit eg 2 BAR,3 BAR etc.

The Microtech has a built in map sensor normally 2.5 bar I think cant be too sure though Timmy or Kev (FD3UK) would know, so if you want to go real high boost eg 28 psi you would have spec the Microtech model before you buy it so it will cover those wanted boost levels/cells

you can run apexi and fcon together for a just as good altenative to motec

I think the initial outlay for any ecu is minimal compared to how much it costs to get the mapping done, not so bad for someone who builds a fast car and is happy with just that, but for someone who is constantly changing then the money can stack up quick with mapping sessions.

I used to love watching some of my cars on the dyno, but for some reason I cringe everytime one of my rotary\'s goes on it..... :D

dboy

Must confess i used to love seeing my Ducati 998 on the dyno and counting the number of car alarms that used to get set off when the needle went up around the 8,000 rpm, do miss that beast, she had almost 165bhp at the rear wheel before she got nicked. not bad for somit that weight about 260 kilos i suppose ;-)

Bit nervous about sticking my rex on the dyno for mapping though..... mind you go to buy one first ;-) wont be long now i am sure. Think i might have found "The One for Me"

Dr-Rotor

I use a GM 3BAR map sensor with my Apexi PFC. I think there are 8 different PIM setups to run what ever map sensor you want.

I have never seen the workings of the Motec system, So I have no right to comment on them. I love my Apexi, seems to work just fine.

You need to sum up what you ant from your car. motec is awesome, but its around the 1000 mark where Apexis have been changing hands for 350, there is no factory support but lots of tuners can tune them. The Motec, Microtech will also cost for wiring as they are not plug and play, you will need to have the wiring made, which from experience can cost as much as the ECU depending on how many sensors you want to add, as Motec can do steering angle, g forces, tyre heat, traction control, launch control, you name it Motec can be configured for it, it can even disable your car as an immobiliser.
So Motec can be 3-4 times the price of someonethat just wants a plug and tune ecu and generally are happy to have it tuned for them
But given the choice Id still have Motec every time or maybe Pectel if money was no object.

hairyhoover

does the motec have any worth while protection? unlike the PFC?

BlitzBoy

again depends on the model, I would have to ask Geff if you can hook up the knock sensor for it to retard ignition like the stock ecu, you may need to go for the M400 for that though.
The MR2 you can my the wiring harness adapter to plug into the existing loom about £150, myslef I just paid to have a whole new custom loom in the end at just over £300, got rid off the old engine harness and all its surplus plugs I didnt need, must tidier install, Reworx did a good job.

My advice is you are looking for just moderate mods and its street driven with a bit of track work stick with an Apexi if you have one. If you serious about circuit work, power, smootness, with loads of options to grow etc and dont have an ECU at present go MOTEC

I find it strange why you guys dont think the PFC is smooth. Am I missing the point here or is there a smoother than smooth setup that a PFC cant do?

I dont get it.:3Confused
