Hi guys/girls

Trying to solve a problem on my 92 FD3s.

When I got the car 4 weeks ago I noticed that the tacho (revs) needle was jumping about all over the place and seemed to jitter frequently, this is not representative of the engine revs.
It is very erratic tacho, it does not work sometimes other times it goes all the way past 9 stays for a bit then goes back to normal or settles at 0, some times works fine, the engine runs fine as I say

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem.

It is the standard gauge by the way.

I was going to start by removing the gauges and then cleaning all the connections?

Any suggestions welcome.

Hi,

Mine does this occasionally, seems worse when it\'s damp and maostly goes away when warmed up.

Shift buzzer and rev limiter aren\'t linked to this so it\'s not going to be a problem that causes any damage!  Can be a bit off-putting though!

It could be a loose wire/dodgy solder joint.  I\'ll ahve my dash out soon to paint up so I\'ll have a look at mine and post back results.

I was not aware of a shift buzzer, maybe I am driving too conservativly :), when should the shift buzzer sound?

When my tacho seems Okay I may try to get it as far as I can and see if I get a buzz sound.

I am sure I do not hear any buzz no mateer what the revs are at.

My tacho does exactly the same thing as yours. Geff (REWorx) said it could be a bad connection on the tacho, but I haven\'t got around to taking the dash off yet! I\'ve got a few other problems to sort out first.

Best of luck,

Adrian

Hello

Well sound like its a dodgy connection of some form ont he tacho ot the guage housing, I will be removing this weekend to try and sort it out.

I will keep you posted as to my conclusions (with pics of course)

Mine does this as well, I think its fairly common, jumps around sometimes then works perfectly jumping to position when you accelerate

I\'ve never bothered to see if I can fix it cos it looks kind of cool when you nail it ! :)

the shift buzzer on mine seems to come on round 7200rpm but that\'s vague coz eyes tend to be fixed on the road at that point...

My tacho has given up totally, only works 5% of the ime now, when I get it fixed I will give the buzzer thing a go.
