Hi I\'ve been having a look online for porting templates for a 12a (both the exhaust and intake templates) does anyone know where to get them, seen quite a few for 13b but none for a 12a.

Not doing any serious porting just an extended one.

Have you tried emailing pineapple racing ? Looks like the side ports are similar to the 13b ones. only the exhaust one is different.

Also try : http://www.mazdatrix.com/toolport.htm

pinapple only have the 13b templates as for the mazdatrix I think there could be room for a lot of error (well where I\'m concerned anyway) I really liked the look of the ones Pinapple sell as the are locked in place and the exhaust port template clicks in meaning every port in in the exact same location.

Shoot them an email or start a thread in their traders section on rx7club and they will get back to you.

Heres the reply I got from Pinapple, there are already two threads on RX7club with no replys

"The 12a market is so small we have filled out the more popular motors first. In the near future, we will have more templates. Check the website in late fall. rob"

I can understand their reasoning there\'s no point investing time and money in the 12a\'s when Mazda have stopped supporting them (by not making anymore spare parts) and more and more people are swapping out the 12a\'s for 13b\'s but at least they are thinking about it

How many miles has the engine your thinking of porting done ? 12a engines don\'t go pop but slowly wear out. I opened one that was a good engine and nothing in it was reuseable. It would have lasted another 5k miles easily.

I got told to go the 13b route because part availablity was much better. Which I did :D

good point Shaun T11 lumps are cheap enough now too:eek:

sh!t didn\'t think of that one engine has 90K miles and the other has 67K miles.  I heard they are normally good for 120K any truth in that?

shaunwil

Lots of truth. I pulled the current 12a out at 114k and it got sold to Alan as a runner. The compression wasn\'t at all good but was good for a few more miles for little money.

I would say it may be worthwhile looking into the 13b conversion. Not cheap but compaired to having to rebuild and buy 12a bits not much in it. Plus the torque difference from the 13b is much better. Mines detuned due to the LPG and small single throttle and still is huge fun at 124bhp fwbhp.

Hmmmmm this might end up a pointless thread then (other than you sourced 12a templates that is).

Might just run it until it gives up the ghost ;) maybe fit carbs for a bit more poke (but ones that will fit a 13b so at least I can salvage something from it. Then buy a replacement 13b engine and get it fitted.

I\'ll strip down the engine thats in the scrapper and see what is usable, never know might be lucky  :3Confused then again might not :flamed but at least it wont have cost me anything :)

The 67k engine maybe very reusable. Thats not very much on a N/A but its a risk. Better off reading some of the rx7club threads to see what they think. The 1st gen section has a great deal more info.

Got two replies back from RX7club both said either (both) engines should be safe enough to strip down and rebuild, but one guy said same as you just run as is for a while or upgrade the exhaust and stick some carbs on for a bit more power and enjoy driving it for a while.
