has anyone got any pics of hks filters installed? i left it down to my dads own devices to fit my filters for me while i was off getting oil and brake fluid and ive ended up with this....lol
doesnt look right to me at all, and they\'r right above the rad fan so heat soak is rediculous!! is this how theyr supposed to be as he said he really couldnt see any other way!!

thanks guys

yeah it does but i just think its a crap design having them right above the rad...doesnt make sense to me, ah well cheers fella

It does look right to me. If i remember correctly from when I had mine, but there\'s meant to be a bracket that holds them in place slightly higher up.

pearl_rex

yeah theyr on the brackets but theres a few different screw holes scattered about the place so i think its just a guess as to where theyr mounted, they are mounted as high up as they can be though! i can see these being for sale very very soon, not happy at all with them lol

cheers mate

pearl_rex

if i could modify 2 bmc carbon enclosed filters to fit, would that be better or worse?

logicalChimp

Hmmm

For what it\'s worth, my Apexi twin intake setup is not too dissimilar - and that was fitted by Rotechniks.  I think its just the practicalities of trying to fit two air intakes into the bay - one of them will end up over the rad :(

Matt_K

My old M\'s intake/K&N ones (fitted in japan) were the same, infact when it arrived off the boat, one of the filters was resting on the rad pipe! lol

pearl_rex

lol one of mine is!!! its just there doesnt seem to be any other way of fitting them!! im just gona do away with them i think and sort my own intake system out!!! stupid hks, stupid mazda!! stupid stupid stupid!!:Hammer:Hammer:Hammer:Hammer:Hammer:Hammer:Hammer

I like the word \'kerfuffle\' - it doesn\'t get used enough in day to day language. I think it should be!

also, thanks for the turbo\'s mate, hold boost well, no probs with them at all so far!!! your an absolute life saver :D

Ive got exactly the same set up as you fella, apart from the fact I did have a large XS Power SMIC fitted and had to adjust the angle of one of the hard pipes with the aid of a hacksaw (dont have it fitted now have gone for an ARC SMIC).  I also dont have the arch liners in.

I also thought about two enclosed BMC carbon filters, as I ran one on my last car with great success.

Give me a shout how you get on, or if anyone else has any thoughts on an enclosed filet mating to the HKS pipework.

That is, indeed, how they\'re supposed to fit, although HKS filters should be more at home as a bath sponge than a serious automotive upgrade! As said above, Apexi\'s, K&Ns, M\'s, Blitz, all these separate induction systems have the same issue, ie sucking in hot air off the rad. You need to rig some sort of heat shield ideally. I made my own from three pieces of ally plate, all held together by quick-release quarter turn fasteners for ease of removal and that. Made chuff-all difference to intake temps, tbh, but it looks nice, though arguably if you\'re going to all that effort you may as well stick with the original airbox.! Plastic doesn\'t actually conduct heat anywhere near as well as metal, of course, it\'s almost like Mazda knew what they were doing when they designed the intake system .:Giggle I think heat soak from the turbos and engine into the manifolds has more of a profound effect on performance than the coolness or otherwise of the air at the filter end of the intake tract.

Those are right! But the one thing I notice is you seem to be missing the charge relief valve and the BOV or are they just venting to atmosphere and tucked under the pipes?

I woof in your general direction.

pearl_rex

hmmm cheers for the info guys...

yeah the crv and bov are vented to atmos and tucked away!! love how clean all your piping is!! any hints or tips on how to get it nice and shiney? as mine have had a right kicking with grubby fingers lol!

cheers again :)
