I have a 93 FD3. I appear to have very low oil pressure on warm idle.. I say this.. It\'s not always like that! some times it sits just under 2kg/cm.. then others it may drop to just above 0! as soon as you touch the throttle though it goes up to 4kg/cm or more.. And when around 5000rpm yo have 6kg/cm plus. Is this normal.. The gauge does seem to jump about a bit when idling. Are the factory guages reliable? I have an oil leak on one of my turbo\'s so I imagine I may be loosing a bit of pressure through that possibly?

Also I reckon the oil has possibly thinned a bit.. possibly got a bit of petrol contamination. Very hard to say. Is it normal to get a bit of petrol in the oil or is that not possible on the rotary setup? If it is, but bad, let me know what the cause is!

Thanks
Lee

is this on the stock sensor and gauge? if so the sensor isnt that great try taking it out and cleaning it up.

leeroy_25

Yes it\'s all stock..  Will take it out and clean it when I do my oil change!

logicalChimp

heh - that behaviour is pretty stock ;)

hairyhoover

just to let you know you can do it whenever - just make sure things are cold!

Thank you guys for putting my mind at rest!!

Mine did the same when I first got it. While I was driving and suddenly noticed I had no oil pressure but then as soon as I had chance to pull over it was back up to normal pressure.

I replaced the oil pressure sender and I\'ve never had a problem since (This was 8 years ago)

DMDRIFTING

How much is an oil pressure sender?

Might be worth changing mine soon, as i have the same problem!

What did you do in the end Lee?

leeroy_25

Hey there mate.. Not done anything yet!! no time! I have a new oil pressure guage with sender I will fit eventually! I could try the sender off my spare engine and see if it\'s any better.. just been flat out!

mine does this, i gota quote from mazda for a new sender recently, came in at just over £120 and they said it would be on back order, might take 8wks to arrive and i would have to pay upfront, so i put that idea on hold for a bit :-(

DMDRIFTING

Blimey £120 thats a little too much. Be easier to purchase a Defi Oil Pressure Gauge and add it to some other gauges :chat

Think if you look around (not ordering from Mazda UK) you can get them for around £85 but still damn expensive!!

Mine\'s not erratic, just damn slow. It\'s response rate is awful so probably just needs a good clean, if I could be bothered..

Shiuko

This is what I\'d do if I had the money.

Unfortunately, it doesn\'t look like I\'ll be doing it any time soon.
F@cking credit crunch!!!  :2Mad

Hey DMDrifting..

You around tomorrow? Sunday 28th? I was thinking of driving up the top of Portsdown hill around Miday if the weather is any good. Could be a good photo op! just got a new digi cam! Let me know if you are about. Could possible go for a little drive after.
