Hi RX7

To be honest I thought the car was all sorted and if you look the advert for it is still in the for sale section under 1997 Mazda RX7 Type RB Bathurst X Dyno 380bhp you can see by the spec it appeared to be fine.

I am on my second enging in 12mths and my biggest regret was not paying more and putting a new v8 in. I got the rebuild for free and with a 2 year warrantee on it.

The for sale thread does look good, its a beautiful car, but I think what Pete and I were saying is that component failure may be to blame. If the advert said \'New Walbro fuel pump 6000miles ago\' (with documentation) then I guess you could pretty much rule that out. As it happens there isn\'t any mention of fuel pumps, injectors, etc. I think do like Pete said and get Geoff to do some tests and try establish the cause, will save you sooo much hassle in the long run. Plus give you an idea of future upgrades or potential problems (if they spot any).

Hi RX7

Yes I agree with your suggestions and steps are already being taken to do this. I run several vehicles and have always maintained all of them to tip top condition and the learning curve owning an RX7 although steep has been crow-barred into my cranium.

Can you really put a V8 in the RX without adding too much weight and upsetting its fine balance?
Not that I would consider such a move as the RX is known as a rotary although I remember people putting a V4 in the RO80 many years ago.

What make is it and do you have to change the gearbox?

rx7veilside

tinker 27 does a superb conversion and for others ie spartacus did their own weight stays same balance stays same in the states its very popular cos people get fed up with the rotary going pop
u get all the good looks and handling of 7 with the good economy effortless torque instant grunt excellent mpg and a pretty much bullet proof easy 400hp just remember not to redline them v8s dont like the revs but then again theyre so fast they dont need them

The next question is... How much? Realistically speaking, 2nd hand engine and gearbox..
£4, 6, maybe £10k?
