Guys there are so many threads on suspensions......... yes the usual question!!!!!!!!!!!!

My FD is a every day runner and I need to keep the standard height, Also I dont do track days

So what suspension would you guys recommend for every day use. Dont mind if they are coilovers.... also where to get them from........ I dont want stupidly priced set s either

Thanks in advance

Hmmm

why not stick with the standard setup?  If its pretty old, you might want to replace the bushes (and maybe the springs) - but unless you\'re wanting to track it, I can\'t really see the point of the coil-overs...

a set of good replacement springs will probably cost 50 quid or so (or at least, thats what I paid for a mint set of 4), and if you hurry real quick (and talk nicely to James) you might be able to sneak in on the Super-pro bush group buy thats just closed... (370 ish for all bushes, front, back, and diff)

oh - and even if you do go to coil-overs later, you\'ll probably still be wanting to swap your bushes anyway...

I\'ll have some RS*R springs going for sale pretty soon ;) But they do drop it a bit.

If you want to keep stock height you\'ll either need custom springs or coilovers.
The cheapest coilovers i\'d genuinely consider would be Tein Superstreets - you don\'t need the top mounts, so you are looking at something in the region of £600 or so, and for that you get a full UK warranty and Tein\'s excellent reputation.

Personally, i\'d steer well clear of the likes of D2, K-Sport, Apex etc. Having experienced some of these i\'d much prefer to pay the small premium and get something that\'s got a damping setup that\'s not from the mid 19th century.

For the street i would recommend.

Bilstein sport dampers all round £600 inc vat
Tanabe GF210 (but lowers approx 30mm) £190 inc vat
Cusco roll bars front and rear £390 inc vat

If you wanted all we could a Package deal at £1,062 inc vat & delivery.

The springs are 15-20% stiffer than the std spring and the bilstein dampers are superb. If you add the roll bar into the mix these will take some of th cornering stress (as the body tries roll) off the dampers and springs allowing them to respond better to bumps in the road.

This is a very good set up for the road and you\'ll still have great fun on track too.

All the best

I have recently replaced all the bushes ( derlin ) and pillowballs on the car. I dont mind the stiffer ride but was looking at a set of tein\'s  http://www.mazdarotaryparts.com/bfd-s002-tein-super-street-damper-kits-with-or-without-upper-mountsb-809-p.asp

what is the general thought on these? would i need the upper mounts too?

Super streets are very very good - only problem in my eyes is that the ride hight isn\'t independantly adjustable from the preload. Meaning that if you drop the ride height you reduce the suspension travel - although up to a point it\'s debatelable if this is an issue.

You really don\'t need top mounts unless you want increased NVH. They offer no advantage in handling on a souble wishbone equipped car, as the top mount is not part of the setup that maintains the geometry. On a car that uses Mac. struts they help, but not on an FD.

I\'ve had 2 sets of Teins (both Flex), and they\'ve both been brilliant.

I have superstreets on Sti, have to say I am slightly disppointed with them.  I suppose you get what you pay for, they are probably the one of the cheapest adjustabe around at the moment....

Get some Ohlins DFV!!:Giggle

RZ bilstein shocks and OEM FD springs.

Also id definitely agree with SiH on the pillowball top mounts....ive heard so many clueless people rabbit on about how theyre PB top mounts are the bees kness but not many who actually know that they are next to useles on an FD!! great if you want an excuse to not drive your car after a year or so when they start to rattle
