The bolster on my FD drivers seat is looking a little worse for wear.  The leather is a bit worn and there are cracks.

Im looking for a kit to re-dye the leather and possibly to fill the larger cracks.

Its the red leather interior (Type X and Bathurst etc.).

Has anyone done this before and could recommend a supplier of dye?

Cheers

I have to do about 1 set a week and its a pain but worth it in the end.
i can give you the number of our supplier if you like but he will require a sample to make the right colour.

Dont suppose youve re-dyed any of the rare red MX5 interiors have you Steve?

Just thinking you may have a parts number on that kit, to save the time and hastle of cutting off a sample!

May have a found a solution!  Found a web-based company with an imported red Mazda kit in stock, so hopefully its the right one.

Will keep you\'s posted!

Hi RX7

I\'d be interested too, I have a Bathurst X with red leather and have a few crease marks etc. what I have tried with quite good results is to mix some of the red \'colour back car polish\' darker the better with maguires leather polish it makes a bright red mix and I apply it to the leather then polish off it never colours my clothes and looks good for about 3-4 weeks.

I know its been ages in finishing this thread (!) but ive only just had time to dye the leather in the ‘7.

It took me ages to track down a kit for the red leather in the RX7.  In the end ive used a kit that was designed for the red leather in the MX5.  It was bought from  an on-line supplier, a guy called Mark Wibberley (mark@morethanpolish.com).  He mentioned it was an imported kit for the MX5 so you may have to pre-order if you want one.

The kit has a large bottle of dark red dye and two small bottles of toner to alter the colour (a bright red and a burgundy).  You have to mess about with the colour a bit, but it seems to work!  You also get a gloss finish to bring out a shine.  I also bought a bottle of the leather cleaner to use first to remove the ground in dirt and years of Autoglym!

Hope this helps anyone :)
