after 4 months ive finally got the fd goin properly (charge control solinoid)
and cant belive how well theses cars accelerate been mot\'d insured taxed since yesterday and lovin it!!!!!!!
except every time i park it leaves a puddle of coolant on the floor coming from white tank on drivers side
anyone know what all thats about???
also massive cheers to every one on here for leaving helpfull technical posts and cheers to the wife for having tiny hands and helping me out with the fiddly bits!:yes
cheers all :wiggle

You\'ve just over filled the overflow tank. Give it a few good runs an keep topping coolant up in the filler neck until all the air pockets are out of the system. Just it trying to stabilize the whole system.

gona keep a good eye on the water  level
fanx again all

Just make sure you check it each time you go out from cold and it sould take about 5-10 runs to settle down.

This may indicate a more severe issue.  Typically when the engine cools it sucks the coolant back into the motor.  If the coolant seal is leaking or gone then this will also happen.  My suggestion would be to make sure the coolant reservoir is not overfilled.  Drive it and bring it up to full temperature.  Let it sit until cool.  If you still have a puddle then you have a coolant seal problem.

rustyrex

D\'OH!!!still gettin puddles, but havent noticed the white smoke or odd smells that also indicate seal failure.
realy hope its not the seals gona try flushing the lot out and burping it properly
to see if that helps.
maybee needing new ast cap?????
cheers dude fingers arms legs eyes all crossed!

Archbish

check the pipe running from the AST to the over flow tank isn\'t pinched - it can get caught and the pressure behind the coolant is enough to force it out, but the vacuum as it cools is not enough to suck it back.

dont want to speak to soon but might have sorted it,no puddles for 3 or 4 journeys now.
what i did was drain the over flow tank (by syphoning it !!!blea!!!) to halfway between full and empty mark.
i also noticed the filling cap was a bit to easy to get off so tweaked the bent tabs a bit to make it fit tighter.
so fingers crossed its a good un
can any one say that what i did has probly fixed it?
cheers all
btw pipe goin to overflow was not pinched cheers bish

rustyrex

well after this coolant problem coming and going at random ive finaly sorted it for good now.
what the problem was the overflow tank had lots of rusty sediment in the bottom(cheers former owners)and when the engine gets hot it can dump coolant into the resivoir but when the car cools down it cant suck the coolant back to the engine because of the sediment getting sucked up too!!!
so the tank filled up and spilled on to the floor each journey.
so glad it wasnt the dreaded seal failure......phew!!
flushed the system out and jobs a good un!!!
