Hi guy\'s I noticed while driving today a light was on the dash \'4W ABS\'. It stayed on al the way home. I presume it means something wrong with the abs?? Can anyone give me any pointers as to what might the problem?

Thank you
Lee

Kash_

check the ABS fuse & relay to make sure they haven\'t gone first... they are in the engine bay where the fuse box is

Thanks Kash,
Any advances in case not??

Cheers

I have had my ABS warning light on before when I started my car, I have an FC, but I know that after I restarted the car it turned off, perhaps check all connections to the ABS under the bonnet incase anything has come loose, if not it might be 1 of the sensors on the wheels that has failed

Could be the actual ABS computer in the boot. It\'s behind the nearside trim on the side of the boot. It went bang on my first FD because water was leaking into the boot around dodgy spoiler mounts and a leak in the rear screen surround, and it sorta trickles down through the brake ECU. It\'s supposed to have its own little vent to stop this happening, but it easily gets blocked with crud, the water pools up, and then it goes off pop! Hopefully, your problem isn\'t that happening!

Nik,

I do have a boot leak.. although it has been dried out over the last 6 months or so as its been inside and the light wasn\'t on before? Is it a big issue if that\'s gone bang then? I think I know the little box you mean as I had to unbolt it to fix the dent in my rear corner!

I wil check everything else first!

How do you fix the leaking rear screen? mine could have been dodgy spoiler mounts.. but I reckon it\'s the screen.. When it rained on it when it was outside and you opend the boot the next day water would run out of the plastic trim on the boot interior!

Yeah, could be either or, tbh, mate! I had the screen on mine taken out and re-sealed by a travelling autoglazier, which he really wasn\'t happy about! He kept muttering about what a complicated shape it was and how easy it\'d be to break it, which wasn\'t too reassuring. It\'d obviously been taken out before for paint or something, and put back badly, there was no sealant at all and some of the bolts were missing (Yikes! bit scary to see when I thought of the speeds these things get up to, I kept thinking of scenarios where the rear screen blew out on the motorway).

Anyway, i thought that\'d fix the leak, but sure enough, the next time it rained, I still had to empty a few pints of water out the spare wheel well, which was when I turned attention to the spoiler. There were only three mounting bolts left intact on mine, and the water had just rotted away the sorta foam gasket thing that goes between the spoiler and the boot, so water just poured in. A new (used) spoiler from the incomparable Tim at RX Motors and about a gallooon of silicone cured it.

The trouble is that the black interior trim acts as a collector for the water until it gets really full, when it leaks out, or until you open the boot, then it pours out around the edge, like you describe. By that point it\'s impossible to say what it is that\'s been leaking to let it in in the first place. I would suggest the spoiler might be easiest to check yourself, once you get the interior placcy off it\'s fairly easy to get to the mounts, and if it\'s really mullered you\'ll probably be able to tell without having to take it off.

As to the ABS computer, I had mine replaced Jason at Super 7, who diagnosed the problem for me. Like you, I just had the fault light on, but didn\'t know why. I think that there\'s a diagnostic code that tells you if the computer\'s gone pop, but I dunno how to read it. There\'s a guide here somewhere IIRC about bridging terminals in the diagnostic port with an LED. HTH
