I go for months without posting any technical help queries and now I seem to be posting them on the hour... Ah well...

I\'m attempting to change my OEM steering wheel to a Momo Race. I had a Momo boss from Steve Garbutt on here, which his supplier told him was the right fit, but it didn\'t seem to be so I returned it. I then found one made by Ektor (French), checked it was for a 91-95 RX-7 and bought that (even though the box says 323 81>, Festiva, MX5 89> and RX-4/929 83>). Same problem.

Pics below kind of show the problem, but basically it\'s that the boss won\'t go over the splines, and even if it did, the flat metal plate for the horn electrics wouldn\'t work anyway - the OEM metal plate to meet up with the bit of plastic that spins round to maintain contact has plastic grooves in it, meaning the metal is recessed and wouldn\'t be able to contact with the back of the boss.

The pics are of the OEM fitting with and without the plastic cover and also of the back of the Ektor boss (which is also what the Momo one looked like).

Anybody know why I\'m struggling so much with something so simple!? :o

Momo don\'t do a boss for Jap import body-side horn connectors, just the brass contactor ring type. Think that\'s for older model RX-7s. They do on things like MR-2s cos there\'s bloody thousands of the damn things, but it\'s not economical for them to manufacture small volumes just for us FD owners. You need a Jap market one. Newera do some

Well, that would explain it...! Thanks Nik, off to search for something that WILL do the job now...

I bought my Momo one from Clive that is for a FD

Take the purple plastic cover off and it fits over the top. Some FD\'s are different when it comes to boss kits. My forst FD didnt have the puple plastic cover but another shape connector. Took this off, chucked in the bin and the boss went straight on and the horn worked fine

Wish mine was the same, the splines wouldn\'t mate up though. :(

I put my wheel back on ****-eyed though, so will have another look just to make sure while it\'s off.

Was the boss a MK5705?? if so they do fit little work involved but they do fit and work, ill find my pictures out i took when i did mine if this helps? also the spline fit is tight.

To be honest I\'m not sure - I know that\'s the official Momo part no. for the RX-7 boss, but the one I got from Steve didn\'t come in a box, so not sure. The second one I had was made by Ektor, which looked very similar but is giving me the spline issue.

Would be very interested to see your pics, ta!
