Lights won\'t light, Popups won\'t pop!

Ok, having some issues with my lights.  I\'m in the middle of having the popup lights re-fitted with a HID kit, as opposed to the sleek lights that were previously on it.

Recently, the sleek lights decided to stop working.. which I suspected was down to their poor build quality and bad wiring.  The main beams would only work when I pulled back on the stalk, but not when the stalk was pushed forward for full beam.  One click on the stalk brought the side/tail lights on.

Now they have been removed, my friend who is a mechanic but not an autolec was testing the electrics before we fitted the popups and HIDs.  The problem is he couldn’t get the popups or bulbs to light up at all.  Side lights and tail lights are still fine.

Fuses have been checked, relays have been checked, and lives & earths have been checked and seem to show good figures.. but still no luck.  I also have a spare stalk set which we tried but didn’t seem to make a difference.  Does this mean I have a loom problem with the switches?

Is there anything else that should be checked.. any sneaky hidden relays or fuses.. or am I looking at getting a proper autolec out?

I\'ve searched as many topics as possible but cant seem to find anything to make them work.

Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.
