should BOV be blowing air at iddle? (my is vented to the atmosphere) my one does it, at iddle engine is running and BOV is blowing air out..is it normal?

prince_of_tokyo

shouldnt do mate, it should be vaccumed at idle, could cause stalling issues as air/fuel mixture would not be right. id say check all the vacuum pips etc for leaks

i disagree, mine vents a bit to atmosphere with the stock one or the Baileys i have on when at idle... Never had any issues with mine and has always been like this...

Vacuumed at idle will mean the piston is lifted due to the vacuume, you dont want the turbo\'s boosting at idle really, which is the whole point of the vacuum pipe

Isnt that what the wastegate is there for. ive never had this problem with an FD or anything of the like, but i did have similar probs with a punto GT (back in the day) and it kept stalling...

if your car is ideling ok and boosting of, then i wouldnt worry

When the engine is in vaccum the bov opens, if oponed on boost it would leak all your boost away. Tho there shouldn\'t really be much coming through as there is no boost to dump, but it will be open, comprenda??

SmbFD3S

You will get problems if you are using a BOV with a car that has a MAF sensor but not a MAP sensor, as the airflow will be unmetered....

Depends on the setup and the type of BOV i guess but i queries this with Baileys and the single piston BOV\'s and this is quite normal... Also depends whether you\'re on twins or single i gues and internal and external wastegates....

Or maybe i\'m just talking crap lol

The turbos are spinning albeit not much even at idle and the vac created by the engine will lift the valve slightly....

yeh talking complete crap. The waste gate type has no relivance here to the bov leaking. The wastegate controls boost by bleeding off exhaust gas, just happens to be a very similar device. The maf, map thing only effects the running of the engine not the dv or wg.

SmbFD3S

Yeah i agree with the wastegate, and you wouldn\'t actually have a BOV if you had a wastegate...

However the MAF is correct as i stated, depending on the BOV you are using, you will be sucking in unfiltered air which will not be registered by the ECU therefore causing overfuelling and crap running... However, being as the FD has MAP sensor this bit\'s irrelavant anyway

doesnt the turbo spin at negative boost at idle? should this not make the valve close then? just trying to get my head around thing mate

Turbo can\'t spin backwards. The vaccum is caused but the thottle being closed but the engine still sucks in air through small gap making vaccum. Bit like trying to breath in thru your mouth with it closed. So that opens the bov. Exhaust gas will still be going thru the turbo but slowly any positive pressure can only really go thru the bov. Shouldn\'t be much maybe a slight whistle.

sickboy2345

ok please check my "whistle"(if i wasnt holding it really tight it would blow it away):

sickboy is the small vacum pipe still atached to the bov and is it intact?
1.5%sure its not sposed to blow on tickover,
try bribing it with a fifty!!!

sickboy2345

the small vaccum pipe is still intact mate this is a 2nd blow off btw...

btw:

"bribing it with fifty" - sorry i didnt get this one..:)

PMSL! I think this is a reference to your Paul Daniels skills with the fiver in that video, Sickboy!

Seriously though, that does seem to be shifting a lot of air for just at tickover, don\'t look right to me.
