Missed my point a bit matey - 1000bhp or 500 or 250, it\'s what you do with it that counts.

Dynos can be played with, and their outputs vary from hardware to harddware. A 160mph terminal cannot and can directly be related to horse pwoer.

Only if you know accurate numbers for drag though!

i think its funny when people say stuff like that.
i think i rember dragon saying (but dont quote me) i dont power test my engines i use the drag strip??
but if you want to know how good an engine is you use a engine power measuring tool. ie a dyno lol

pluss the swiss and norway folks have had 1000bhp cossies for a while now @ 2 litre so yet again the uk lags behind

I was talking about the car as a package,  1000 bhp or 2000 bhp, it doesnt matter, as a car, if it cant perform the car as a whole is not a good one,  but i did say the engine was good with that dynod power.  I believe dynos are a good tool for measuring engine performance but if you build a drag car with a good engine but everything else is crap then its pointless.

I remember the car last year and it looked like it should be awesome, it sounded and looked great but everytime they launched it the launch control failed or they couldnt change gear properly IIRC.  They only got 1 good clean run in every 5.  Lets hope they can do better this year cos the good launches were impressive to watch.

Now the fensport corolla and celica are consistently good cars  :InLove
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

until Time Attack Tony when the celica blew something up in qualifying lol....didnt sound too good at all.

The more strain you put on the car the more chance there is of something going wrong and damaging something.

People say about the GTR diffs. Yeah they are good but not bullitproof as i destroyed my front transfer box on mine and mine was only running 650 bhp

Putting that sort of power through a car something will break. Guess there are just some luckier than others who can afford to fix the problem the next day

chrisJDM

surely it must be only a drag car i would have thought 1000bhp would be too much for a track car.  Also i wouldnt have thought 1000bhp in a evo would be very reliable i dont expect it would last many laps of any track

AshRX

No its used as a all round car

he won TOTB6 with it and that includes drag, top speed and handling

chrisJDM

blimey i thought i read somewhere that in Japan they sometimes have to detune some cars as they are too powerful for track.

I imagine that unless you\'re on the strip maybe only a half of that 1000hp will be usable power. On a tighter track especially, a similiar car with less power will be easier to drive -less fatiguing on the driver, without them having to worry about traction coming out of corners etc, also potentially a more usable powerband, as increasing power tends to move everything to a narrow band at the top, affecting overall drivablility.
It takes a very good driver to be able to make the most of that kind of power (not saying Simon isnt btw). An amazing car, would love to be able to own/build something that mental one day

Just read the MLR thread, quite funny in places, to my mind its still an Evo Modified given its still has the Evo Engine and Body.

But when you draw the line whether it is or not is an interesting question.
Questions in our world does MAzda RX7 still an RX7 if it has a V8 but still has an RX7 body? The "R" in RX7 used by Mazda to note its a "R"otary engined.

Or a RX7 with most of the chassis replaced with tube frame but still has a Rotary Engine and RX7 outer shell is this still an RX7?

Interesting questions I feel, In my mind so long as it still has the Rotary engine and still the outer body its still an RX7, an RX7 with a V8 is still a Mazda FD3S but not an RX anymore if ya catch my meaning.

I see your point.
Not making fun, but use silvermanrex as a good example make a point. You have no way of identifying the power of his engine neither the effiency of his setup by him driving it on a strip, He was running terminal speed hugely different than Ross was in the very same car.
It\'s hard to compare cars on a strip as you have weight, driver skill, conditions.
Where as on a dyno even though from one place to another the reading may vary, they don\'t vary by that much that it becomes an ineffective tool for measuring the performance of your engine for a given set of modifcations.
You take for example the lads on here running hks t51r, for a given set of mods and a given amount of boost, you have some kind of benchmark when on a dyno to compare the effiency of your setup. If Blitzboy and my self we\'re both running half bridge t51r etc etc and same boost, if I got 60bhp at the wheels less with the exact same setup. The dyno tells me more about the effiency of my setup than a track would for at the track we may clock the exact lap time or at a strip we may hit the same terminals at the end of 1/4 mile. A dyno is not a bragging tool to say I have this and I have that it\'s tool used to measure and manipulate the performance of your given setup.

Reading this, the quote I was looking for is:

Quote"If you can leave black marks from the time you exit a corner till the time you brake for the next turn, then you have enough horsepower." --Mark Donohue

:D

Regardless of everything else, if you\'re racing and have the skills to use it then you really can never have enough power! Looks at the old 1.5 1500bhp F1 engines, massive turbo lag, huge power spikes, but they could drive it ya know ;)
Montego Blue 94 R2 FD3S... Bling not included.

weejimmy

agree with above you can have to much power for given situations but thats why the accelerator is progresive not on/off

theres evos that go round knockhill for time atack. very twisty tight circuit and they are 700+bhp and seem to manage fine.

but as been said its what you do with it that counts.

But terminals are no way related to power as i used to drag a 205 at crail and have same terminals as cars with near 100bhp more than me. unless you mean in same car tyres ratios etc?

a 1/4 measures power and traction gearing etc

a dyno measures engine power

a hub dyno or rollers measure hub/wheel power which to ME  maters most as thats what im puting down and thats what i have to make the most of

a track measures sainity of the driver

either way whatever hapens if it goes pop it might as well be a box cart
