Yes, you were very lucky.  No matter which office you register it at Preston, Manchester, etc etc it all goes back to Swansea.

I have fought back and forth with them, but it\'s to no avail.  Here\'s what they put in a letter to me from Swansea:

DVLA has recently sought advice on vehicles powered by rotary engines and how the engine capacity should be recorded for licencing purposes. Based on this advice, the correct engine capacity for your vehicle is, in fact, 2616cc. This is calculated from the sum of the swept volumes of each of the rotors in the engine, multiplied by 2. In this case 2 rotors each of 654cc = 654cc x 2 x 2 = 2616cc. This is defined in the Automotive Exhaust Emissions Directive. It is our view that displacement is intended to mean the same as swept volume. It is not the same as cylinder capacity. If you require further information with regards to this matter, I would suggest that you contact Mazda direct, who should then be able to confirm the information that I have supplied in this letter.

What a pile of crap..... :(

Quote from: Kevin;511565I know I have seen your RZ for sale, it\'s an average grade import.

Dont miss lead people over grades either.  What one internet exporter company classes as a grade 4 to 5 another wouldnt even class as a grade 3.  There are so many variations in Japan that grading is a very loose term.

Your not ruining my business at all, i have been doing imports for over a decade in which time i have seen lots of things, granted you are only relatively new to the import scene so you have alot to learn.

With regards to the spirit r for 2.5 mill yen "with millege almost to none"..... :rollin:rollin:rollin

Regards.

Lol Kevin!!!

Low grade import? Obviously you know what you are talking about mate.
The diference between you and me is that you probably make the living out of importing cars and I just do it as a hobby so I have no reason to lie to people to sell anything.

Never the less I am glad this thread has been started.  I\'ll be very very happy to post some pictures of so you called low grade cars and their final prices here so people can see.

Best regards
Maz

Kevin

You just enforced the point I was making.  Anybody can search uss auto auctions.  The point that I was making was that I guarentee the car coming over, not just quick glance at a couple of poor auction house photos.

Anyway, good luck to you you obviously know more about it than anyone.

There is no point for me to continue this conversation with you Kevin.

Lets just leave it.

For those who are interested I will post some more rx7 examples with poor quality pictures of the cars that will never come! :D

No point trying to patronise each other, you\'re both talking about different aspects of the market.....

Not patronising at all.  Just trying to educate.  Then again if they dont want to listen as they know it all then so be it.

Hi Maz,
if that price of £8500 was landed, inc vat and import duty, shipping and any dealer/agent fees would put the price of that car at around £5800 give or take?

just wonderin where youre getting the figures from?  is it from sites that give old auction prices, or agents in Japan?  seems really really cheap for that quality, given that well cared for (possibly rebuilt) cars going back to even 93/94 are going for around £5000 or so.

wish the prices were like that when i got mine last july cuz id have just sat it in the drive till now till it just tiopped 10 years lol!!

Didn\'t realise how lucky I was!! Especially the way tax is going, if it ever gets applied to all vehicles that\'s going to be a big bill for the 2.6\'s :2eek

the price of road tax for an rx8 coming 2010 will be £900 will the rx7 come to this http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=25670

As I said before on another thread, I got stung for the higher rate of tax last March when I registered my "new" \'93 FD. Even though we\'d transplanted the engine from my previous wrecked one into the new one, it suddenly seemed to cost twice as much to tax as before. They wouldn\'t have it at DVLA Brighton at all. Computer said no! Robbing b*st*rds!

Im sure it applies to cars after 2001, that will be affected by the rates.  Although you may have an import that is UK registered in 2003/4/5/6/7/8 the rate only goes off year of first registration in country of origin and NOT the date of UK registration.

Eg.

Year of manufacture - 1992
Date of first registration - 1992/03
Date of UK registration - 2006/08

It will go off the date of first registration.  No doubt by about 2010 they\'ll of found a way to screw people for earlier registered cars.  But for now I think we should be ok.
