OK I am now sure, that it WAS 165klms! not 165miles......
4.54 litres into 1 gallon
I used 60 litres = 13.21 gallons
165 klms = 102 miles
102 / 13.21 = 7.72MPG

Ok so all this talk about 17mpg around town is Bull. Unless you drive like my MUM you aint going to get it. Unless there is something wrong with my car?

any ideas otherwise reconsidering ownership.

17 mpg round town, who gets that ??

you could get a power fc and have it mapped properly to maximise ecomony I suppose but its a10 year old rotary sports car and driven round town stopping and starting is never going to be cheap car to run

saying that yours is particulary bad so I would imagine you have a fault, get it checked out

You guys have made me feel much better,  i went from essex to Dragon in Exeter which is 225 miles,  it cost me 50 quid to fill it up with optimax and i got nearly three hundred miles...  i have a new ported engine with a single turbo,  850 prim inj and 1600cc seconds on a power FC......  I was doing between 80 and 90 mph all the way.......... of course its a different story when the right foot gets heavy :)

If your car is using so much fuel at idle, check the Lamda sensor and wire,  if this isnt working it will run rich,  not an expert but i think its something to do with running open loop or closed loop.
The wire can suffer from the heat and become brittle.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

motorway driving is a lot better mpg

modded engines are mapped properly so will return better mpg

its never gonna be great though through town

for that you need a golf tdi or something not a rotary rocket
:)

If all 100 miles were around town and you weren\'t driving very carefully then it sounds feasible to me.  I try to avoid driving around town,  but I did have a spell where I was forced into it and staying below 3k rpm for lots of 3-10 mile journeys I struggled to get 10mpg.

I\'ve never heard of anyone getting 17mpg around town, that is quoted as a normal mpg for mixed use (ie very little time in built up areas).

Still worth getting it checked out by a specialist, but you may find it is your driving style/use rather than something being wrong with the car.

not yet, but when i get around to cleaning it i will post some,  not as special to look at some of the ones i have seen, but i spent my time and money doing the rebuild and turbo conversion.   I am only running 10psi at the mo as that is all its mapped for.   I need to do a few more miles and cure a couple of minor teething problems,  like plumbing wastegate back into the exhaust as it is far to loud!!! and weld a split in the manifold.  Then i will have it mapped to 1 bar,  dont think it will be on par with a T78 460BHP though!!! :).   I only have a (big) TO4E   I am quite happy so far as i tried a few different things which others havent tried and fabricated all the bits and peices myself, they seem to be working ok so far. Its the first rotary i have built myself despite owning them since i was 18!! So far so good,  i recorded a 5.1 0-60 and 13.6 1/4 on my g meter, with road tyres and pump gas! Having trouble with the off take,  it either bogs down or lights up the tyres!  I\'ll get it right with practice.  I will try letting a little air out of the tyres when i get to the strip.

What sort of boost do you run and what times have you run?

Sounds like a very nice mota:), and it looks like you take pride in your work and arn\'t scared of doing things on your own, which is what i like to see:cool How did the engine rebuild go and did you find it fairly straight forward?? If my engine goes i fancy rebuilding it myself,  i just can\'t help getting covered oil you see :bandit

Keep up the good work, Paul:)
