I have seen you can get uprated ignition systems for sale to increase the power of the spark etc, would these be any use in normal day to day driving? I will be upgrading my HT leads soon to nice thick leads, what are peoples experiances with uprated ignition systems like those fireball ignition systems or HKS twin power system etc

grinder

im not sure if you can get them for the FC to be honest ( igniction amps )

i ran magnacor leads on my old FC but they arent cheap - i think mine were just shy of £70 for them

they did look nice though :D

Not particularly useful unless you\'re upping power to be honest.

Standard specifications should see you through for quite a while.

Might be worth replacing bits of 18 yr old wiring more than anything else  :D

We do the Knightsport IGN Amp. CDI300 available for both FD and FC.

I will be uprating the stock wires, even though mine are in good condition, its just a nice safety thing, a bit like uprating the fuel pump :)

Prof

The stock igniters and coils are pretty good on the FC - way better than many other vehicles of the same age.  That being said, the wiring is getting on a bit now.  I would certainly replace your HT leads - I lost an engine in part to weak leads.  The Magnecor ones are an excellent choice.

There are several ingition amps that will work in the FC - ideally you want a capactive discharge one that can offer multispark - but your plug life will reduce.  They are only really necessary where you might be running higher boost or WI that might blow the spark out.

With current Exchange rates £270+vat. would throw in free delivery on that too.

ah yeah I have seen some of the multispark kits, can the plugs handle having multiple sparks? I mean the main reason it said for having it was to make sure all fuel is burnt...we have a secondary plug lol

Prof

Secondary plug is to help with emissions, and also to prevent a sudden surge with a flame front when the \'pinched\' off area comes back into the main swept volume.  And if that sounded greek - take a look one of the animated rotary engine videos.

Basically, during the rotation of the rotor, the inducted fuel air mixture is compressed, and as this compressed charge passes the flat face with the 2 spark plugs, the shape of the trochoid housing results in 2 seperated areas, the Leading Spark fires, and the mixture begins to expand as it burns, the trailing spark fires the remainder, catching that smaller area that was pinched off as the rotor face swept past the high point on the housing.  It results in a more even burn, and lower emissions.

The multispark ingition systems usually provide a rapid succession of sparks at lower RPM, when the mixture is probably leaner as it\'s running in closed loop.  The idea is to provide better ingition of the mixture and better economy.  At higher RPM\'s a single more powerful spark is produced to help guard against quenching of the spark by higher density charges.

Hmm would it be worth getting it after I ported the engine, modded the exhaust and intake and put an e-manage on it? or would it only be useful when running a larger turbo?

Maybe have a look at an MSD setup as well
