Hi there guys. Been a while since i have been here. As some of you know i took the engine out the fd to rebuild it. Unfortunately it is going to be a new engine as the old one is bummed out with only 2 out of 6 seals let on the engine.

So im posting up to ask what people know about doing v8 conversions on the fd\'s. Im needing to know things like cost, where to get parts and where to get the engines and ecu.

Hope you guys can help me out here. Thanks in advance :Thumbs-up

I kinda saw this T-shirt that goes with V8s:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Turbo-Lag-V8-T-Shirt-SRT4-RX-7-WRX-STI-GTI-EVO-X-TT-240_W0QQitemZ160233572170QQihZ006QQcategoryZ15687QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262

I would rather an RX stay as an RX rather than an V8, but thats just my opinion really, personally I don\'t like the lazy v8s they can\'t rev to 12k revs like a race rotary lol

rx7veilside

no but they can rev without blowing a  apex seal rather than having a debate about who likes and doesnt like v8 can we just have a thread for those that are interested in v8 conversions it is an intersting subject and there are lots of people like reading about them

It’s precisely comments like yours why Craig stopped posting about the conversion in the first place, V8 RX7 owners don’t bash rotaries (not in the UK anyway), so why the other way? If you have no interest in the conversion then keep out of the thread, simple.

Please respect the wishes of the guy who started the thread, he has asked for information about the conversion from people who have some experience of it, not for the opinions of rotary owners who have never even been in a V8 RX7, let alone driven one.

Remember, 100% of V8 RX7 owners have plenty real world experience of the rotary, how many rotary owners have real world experience of the V8?

Threads like these are spoiled by people like you who lead them into a “my friends bigger than your friend” scenario with comments like “lazy V8’s” and “rev to 12k”.

If by “lazy” you mean instant power as soon as you stomp on it, then yes, the V8 is lazy. As for revving to 12k, how many rotaries do you know that rev to 12k in real world applications? I’m guessing not many, if any.

Anyway, I don’t mean to get personal Mitch, but please let this thread provide some information for those who genuinely want it. If you want to know what rotary owners think of the V8 conversion, then start a thread to that effect.

Hi Fraser

I sourced my own engine/gearbox (LS1/T56) pullout from Cleveland-Pick-A-Part in the US. It was from a 2004 Pontiac GTO with 15,000 miles on the clock. I paid $5,700 (about £3k) and then customs/delivery charges which came to £700. The installation was done by Craig (who I\'d strongly recommend) and the mapping by Dave Walker at Emerald (ECU manufacturer). You\'d have to speak directly to Craig regarding the costs for his part otherwise this thread will get closed down. What I can say is that the results are awesome. I had only a mild street cam installed, the rest is stock, it made 375hp and 380 ft/lb on Emeralds dyno (don\'t know what brand). Fully assembled and brand new heads can be had for around £1k now which would take you easily into the 425+hp with around the same figure for torque. It\'s early days for me (around 6 months use) but so far, completely reliable.
