Well, it seems like some rules for some, and different rules for others. The last time I posted a "was it you", I got a smack on the head , :Nono!
and my post was edited, because I had mentioned part of the numberplate of the car I saw.

So now I see loads and loads of photos , and even a video of Brooklands from this weekend, and, there are all the number plates of all the cars, clearly shown in all their glory.

????????????????????????????????

I think if you\'ve gone to a meet or show, then the number plate issue isn\'t such a big deal - by the time anyones looking at the pics, the event will have passed, and the cars would not normally be there.

The danger of posting a number plate in the was it you section is I guess that you may have snapped it outside someones house or place of work, and the car will be there on a regular basis, and the risk is higher.

Prof, I agree, and I see your point, but...
in my case,  I didnt take a picture, and the car was doing 70 on a motorway, the car was in the place I saw it for less than 30 secs, whereas the Brooklands cars were there all day.

..still confused.

As Prof said really Martin and on occasion we will get a reported post asking for details to be removed. Which if we do, we then have to act on.

ok, Kev, I dont believe the driver was even on here, it was a moderator who edited my post.

What would happen if I asked for all those Brooklands number plates to be removed?

Brett

Quite a lot of back stage swearing I reckon! - If people request the info removed then I guess we would remove the pics and ask the owner of the pics to edit them before reposting. :)

If it was your car showing a plate you didn\'t want advertised then yes without fail it would be edited out. As for other peoples plates its up to them.

I have had to go through a whole set of RX-8 car meet photos and edit out all the reg plates - took me ages! I was told if someone wanted to clone an RX-8 plate then the owners club would be a good place to look for the corresponding colour / age.

I think people now except that if you take your car to an event then you are agreeing to all insundry taking photos of it - so if you don\'t want the reg on display you take it off or cover it with show plates (or change it for exactly the same plate in a different font - you know who I\'m talking about ;))

Cloning isn\'t so much of an issue with RX-7\'s but we have to be careful. I\'m sure if you do make a \'was it you\' post the cars are distinctive enough for the owner to know it was him. Try posting up that you saw a grey RX-8 on the M1 - bloody hundreds of them! :Giggle

I have always found the number plate issue a little strange at times when people have said to me that "all" number plates need to be removed from forums and will add these are piston forums.

Personally I have always taken the view that if a person presents his car at an event or meet where they are fully aware that a forum or magazine may take, post or print pictures then consciously or unconsciously they are condoning such publicity, just imagine blanking plates on 6 years of MRC events on the clubs forum.

However as has been said above if a car is snapped out and about or if we received an objection from an owner via the moderators section then it\'s not really O/K and we would be compelled to remove a plate or picture with discretion keeping us from making this public knowledge.

Here\'s my solution, just as I did with the FD for a long time ;)

Please note the following when posting on this Forum

No posting of registration numbers as this can be an invasion of privacy and could cause upsets. Also it may end up being a risk to the \'spotted\' driver.

You can post pictures too (if you\'re quick enough with the camera ) but again, no numbers to be shown.

So, when did the piece about posting pictures with no numbers change?

How were we informed of the change?

Does this reporting only apply to "was it you"?

I reported the "mingers" thread because I think its highly derogatory to the girls, but the thread survives, (theres even a new one for 08), and I have received no response about my report.

kev-yorks

Martin first off why do you still have a issue with something a mod who is no longer about did 4yrs ago? As regards posting pics from events with plates showing Clive has summed this one up in his post above. Things do evolve and change with time and if every single one was posted then we\'d have a forum full of rules, the oposite way to which we are trying to go.

To be blunt if your car was there and you wanted it removed from pics or its plates obscured then no problem it would be done, but as your car isn\'t there whats your problem? Not a single member who\'s cars are on show have asked for plates to be obscured that in itself tells a story.

Reporting posts such as the mingers thread the same applies the reported post are discussed amongst the team as it didn\'t offend either of the female moderators it was allowed to run and will do until one of them or some other female member is offended where upon it will be looked at again. If we failed to inform you of this then apologies from team.

Sorry if these policies offend your sensibilities but we are doing our best to do what the majority want not pander to the individual. All i can suggest is if you find these threads offensive then don\'t read them.
