The Re-A steering column mount boost gauges are IMHO the best way to mount a boost gauge in line of sight. They occasionally come up second hand. I bought the housing without a gauge figuring that I could easily get a replacement from Re-A (how hard can this be?). Four things are worth remembering:

i.) Re-A don\'t sell the gauges separately, no matter who you ask :(

ii.) I needed to butcher the back of the mount and gauge to get the resulting replacement gauge to fit (Autometer mechanical boost). Once fitted, there was no clearence to thread a nut onto the mounting bolts. Insulating tape had to be used around the gauge to wedge it in position.

ii.) The Re-A gauge is clearly a shallow unit so it doesn\'t interfere with the steering column. With the Autometer gauge, it\'s only just possible to clip the mounting into position and it comes loose if you let go (a Splitfire gauge I had was about the same depth too). At the moment there\'s a cunning combination of a dab of superglue and a cable tie holding it on, but I\'m trying to work out a neater and more permanent way of doing it.

iv.) As the Re-A units have now come down to £120, get a new one and save yourself the hassle! :Hammer

Oh well...

Chris.

Yeah, seen a couple of white ones but no black ones at the time I wanted to do this (black dials in the Rex). I got it sorted with a little help from the guys down at Hayward, so I\'m happy. Just think I\'d do it differently next time :eek

Figured it might be worth people knowing that not all boost gauges are the same too...

My RE gauge that came with my steering column mount was a right pony old load of sh!te! The union for the boost line wasn\'t restricted down enough to damp out the pressure fluctuations, so the needle flapped about like a pr!ck in a shirtsleeve. Then the light packed up working too! I\'ve got an HKS one now, which is shallow enough to fit in the RE mount, but actually shows the boost accurately and is readable at night, thus making it two up on the RE Redom one, imho! It\'s still in a drawer in the garage, if you want it for the postage? Dunno whether the light is fixable and/or the nozzle can be restricted in diameter somehow, but if you fancy a go...It\'s a white-face one, though.

You\'ll have to help me out with that one, dude. I never can decipher these abbreviations too well! Imfao? No comprende senor

Jit

lol! The re-a one when new comes with a special bit that you plumb into the boost linee to stop those fluctuations.

lmfao = laughing my freaking arse off or something like that :D

Aha! Thought it may mean something like that.

My gauge never came with any widgets to plumb in anywhere, or I\'d have plumbed them in! :) I may be dense, but I\'m not that dense! I was going to get creative with some Loctite black silicone to restrict the hole down, using a needle to keep it open whilst the silicone went off, which I reckon would have done the job, but when the light went I couldn\'t be bothered.

I don\'t have much luck with boost gauges, the current HKS one is my third attempt lol! But, if anyone wants a genuine white face RE Amemiya Redom boost gauge for spares or repair (or daytime use only :Laugh!) They\'re welcome to pay the postage and have it.

If I can sort out my &%@*!ing problem with why the site won\'t display my photos, you\'d even be able to see that it\'s in perfect condition, other then the light being U/S and the wires being cut short for crimp connectors. For some reason, you have to click where the photo should be and it gives you a new window to look at the image in, but I have to log in again to view it. I dunno if anyone else is having this problem, but it\'s starting to aggravate the %$£*@! out of me!

Jit

well i reckon i can sort that light out so i dont mind grabing it off ya :D Is your car still down at Jasons?

Nik da Greek

Wotcher, Jit. Yeah, Jason\'s still got the car! I think it\'ll have put down roots by now. He\'s basically sorted everything but the second turbo not working (!) and then ran out of time. I\'ll be happy if I see her again this year! If you want the gauge, you\'re welcome to it, it\'s no use to me sat in a drawer

Nik da Greek

Actually, now I think about it, Jit, do you think you can sort out the light on that GReddy one, too? I thought that these things weren\'t serviceable once assembled, but if you know better?

Sorry, slight thread hijack, very humble...

Jit

Im sure Jason will get to the bottom of it..these boost problems can get really gay :(

i dont see why i shudnt be able to sort out the greddy....dyou wanna leave em both down at Jasons next time ur there and ill see if i can work my magic? ill practice on the re-a first before i totally annihilate ur greddy!

Nik da Greek

Cool, cheers dude, I\'ll leave \'em both with the man. Hopefully the next time I\'m at Jason\'s it\'ll be to pick up my beautiful supsersonic FD! Failing that, I\'ll settle for the old one back, but working!

Jit

any idea when you might be down by his dude? Im there prob this sunday....maybe u shud get onto the man himself and get him to pull his finger out! :D

I don\'t want to provoke him too much! Actually, spoke to him today and he\'s got it all up and running, just needs mapping now and we should be good. If I get a chance I\'ll nip over before Sunday and leave the gauges with him (so long as he doesn\'t mind acting as your post boy lol!) for you. Be easier if you renew your membership, dude, I could just pm you all this! I\'m sure no-one else is interested in all my witterings!:)
