Just wondering if there\'s an "Engine Removal How To" guide anywhere on here?

I\'ll be rebuilding mine in a few months and just wondering really whether there\'s a guide on what to remove (minimal) to enable engine to come out.... If possible i\'d like to remove the engine as complete as possible cos it will be a hell of a lot easier to track, and will also be easier to remove ancillaries with the engine out the car i would think..

Cheers (and sorry if there is one on here and i\'ve missed it...)

what would also be good is a break down how too of all the non-block bits ( pipes plenum etc etc )

There is a dvd from  http://www.rotaryaviation.com/R%20R%20Video.htm i had one a coulpe of years ago but now will not play, anyway it give a very good guide to removing all the parts above block level, including reinstall and items to check before you turn the key after rebuild.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find it myself...
But i can always do with some help now due to, my advancing years!

Dont mind watching DVD\'s of how to\'s, but i also like a list to work from i.e. remove this first, second, third etc etc  That way you know where you are.

I don\'t imagine it\'s that difficult to be honest to remove the rotary, i just thought it would help in general :)

Well no its not a difficult job at all, start at the top removing anything wiring, piping, induction, rad, intercooler, that will stop the engine being removed. not forgetting starter motor wiring, and earth,  just take notes, pictures.
The video does take you through step by step. if you needed it.

I know the FD is a bit different from the FC but principles are exactly the same and as Hamc has stated just start in an orderly fashion taking off anything that will get in the way. Always try to take things off in one big lump if you can,  if you are leaving the box in then leave the oils but if its coming out with the engine then you have to drain the box oils, good time to drain the engine oil as well.  Just take your time and when its ready to come out just do it very slowly, checking everything, especially for the odd earth wire or forgotten connector..  Sometimes its just best to get on with it, you\'ll soon know what needs to go or move out the way.  I have done about 4 FC TII engines now mostly taking out within the last 6 months and i reckon i can whip one out by myself within a normal working day and thats not using a ramp.
One thing you could do is to put your car on axle stands this will make it easier to get underneath but just remember that your engine hoist legs have to go underneath somewhere and they almost certainly get in the way.  if you have a roof mounted hoist then no bother.  I will drain all the oils and water in another location as its pretty miserable working on a wet floor. !!

Thanks for the advice guys :) And yes Pete, i;ve just installed a hoist system in the garage so should make things easier :)

I\'ve decided to take the car off thr road now and rather than wait til it goes bang and cost more to rebuild, i\'m gonna rebuild it now over the next few months and hopefully modify it slightly.  i want to keep the twins cos i love how it drives and pulls lower down the rev range, but i think a streetport is highly likely :)

The car is a UK car and has done 59,000 as of now but still pulls strong, no water leaks and no play in the turbos so i\'m fairly confident is should be a straightforward rebuild.

Can i ask the DIY\'ers where the best place to get a rebuild kit from is? and has anyone tried/used the Pinapple racing kit with the uprated water seals?

I\'ll obv be replacing the clutch in the build also, and hope to take lots of progress photo\'s so once i actually start i\'ll create a new thread so you can see/laugh at my progress lol....

Ray crowe at malloy autos is your man for the rebuild kit. Drop him an email requesting the parts you need. hmkparts@aol.com He\'s got 2 fd\'s and he knows all the part numbers. I got my rebuild kit off him last year. Didn\'t get charged any inport tax and they arrived within a week. Very Nice guy. As for water seals, i reckon pineapple water seals are worth a shot.  Blake@pineapple has answered a lot of questions in this thread. http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=575631

The workshop manual has a good explanation too.
