I think my slave cylinder has gone on my FD, the clutch pedal wouldnt come back up sometimes.  My mechanic said there are no way to tell if is the Slave cylinder or master cylinder until its changed.  is that right?

How much work (labour hours)is to change the slave cylinder??  Can it be done on the driveway myself? :3Confused

yes you can do it your self bud. Mine was doing this so i checked the slave and master (turns out they were fine and my thrrust bearing retaining collar had come off)
jack the car up, remove the metal plate that is held on with 4 10mm nuts, and you\'ll see the bell housing, the started motor and above that the slave. Disconnect that battery before removing the started motor (dont do what i did and just disconnect the positive them move the connection to the side, the connector was touching the battery and i got zapped) the you\'ll have some fun taking off the starter motor it\'s held inplace with 2 14mm nuts, one is not a just a nut but a nut and bolt so you\'ll need a 2nd spanned etc to undo it, the you\'ll be able to see the slave. Thats held on by more 10mm bolts and thats it. The master you can get to from under the bonnet so thats easier.

Just to let you know that the slave cylinder is £75 from mazda.

Anyone correct me if I\'m wrong but I think you\'re looking at a problem in the clutch. The master or slave cylinders could seize up in theory, but in practice they usually have seals that are leaking/worn and that won\'t then put the clutch down. The clutch upwards action mostly comes from the clutch springs themselves, with perhaps a bit of help with a spring in the pedal box.

Does anyone know the part number for Mazda slave cylinder?

shaunwil

I think blueprint do that part too, much cheaper than mazda and just as good.

I recently replaced both master and slave, the slave was shot so I figured the master couldn\'t be far behind. Did it on a ramp, but it was very easy, 2 man job though (master replacement and subsequent bleeding)
