Okay how do i do it? Im making 160 odd miles to a £50 tank. so im spending about 200 / 250 a month on petrol.

I already keep it below 3000 as much as possible, use high octane (not noticed a difference). what else can i do?

You don\'t worry about fuel economy if you buy a rotary lol but I would suggest getting a good air filter, I found it worked well on my Mazda 323f as throttle reponse is better meaning you need less throttle, meaning less fuel, perhaps also get some Redex injector cleaner and ensure that the injectors are clean, but check with some of the other guys on here incase they have found it leaves residue

dthebuk

well firstly, £50 of high octane isn\'t as much fuel.
where about are you driving?if your driving through maidenhead all the time then your fuel economy will be bad.
try using cruise control
slow down for traffic lights early
accelerate slowly
pump up your tyres
and drive a bit slower :D

at a £1 a litre you are getting just a touch over 14mpg

i would check the air filter to make sure its OK and then then maybe a new set of plugs

start at the cheaper end first with the air filter

How long are your journeys?
What roads & how much traffic?

DemonRx4

sheesh 14 mpg...

I do all the normal things to conserve fuel tyres pumped up, cruise control where possible and slowing down early for lights and roundabouts.

I do roughly 60 miles a day for 2 weeks out of every month and then just pottering about on my weeks off. Traffic is dependant really as it\'s mainly country roads i use from Maidenhead to Oxford and i only drive late at night and then about 7am in the morning.

I knew it wouldn\'t be ideal with fuel economy but i was expecting better than 14 odd mpg christ i could use my dads old Jag lol.

Im going to book it in Rotechniks for a service (Oil, filters and plugs) then hope it makes a difference. Failing that my mate reckons it could be something to do with a "thermo...something or other" as it\'s cracked and the air pipe is apparently blowing like a normal exhaust which it should\'nt do so who knows.

You could remove the viscos fan too and swap to an electric one. This can yeld some mpg. It could even be stuck on ?

Does the 2nd gen have aircon ?

Imports have aircon but Uk models don\'t. Well neither if mine do. You could always whip the belt off the power steering to see if that helps too. (if you don\'t mind building up you biceps!)
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Air con was a dealer option on UK cars, I\'ve got it on my TII.

Brett

What compression is the engine at, has it been tested?

I got 24-28mpg out of my FD all the time, sounds like yours needs a good service :) (filters, plugs etc)

Brett

FD\'s and TII\'s are more economic than egi\'s and 1st gens. You might seen low 20\'s on a motorway cruise, otherwise 180 to a tank is average for mixed driving. :wave

24-28 mpg?!  - i feel cheated!

I dont thinks its had a compression test. I know that i\'ve been told its still got loads more miles on the engine as it starts first time when its warmed up and a few other little tell tale signs but as far as compression goes i couldn\'t tell you.

It is a UK car and has no AC (would of got rid of it straightaway anyway lol). And i dont really want to get rid of the power steering as it makes these long journeys to work bearable (even though the dam thing catches you out a treat if the back end lets go :Laugh .

Definitely getting it serviced!!!!

cyman

the egi i had previously would get around 20-22mpg on a nice long cruise could never get it any better than that, and that was with green filter,no airpump, rotechnics front pipe and full stainless, fully serviced using cruise control and sticking to about 70 on the motorways.

the mpg def got worse as the miles mounted up so if you have low compression on your car i wouldnt expect it to get better unless you go for a rebuild.

fingers crossed your motor is fine and it just need a bit of sorting at rotechnics.

I get about 200 miles to my tank of super unleaded.  Worth doing what the chaps have stated above, especially the air filter, good plugs and make sure its running nice and smooth.  mine has all the usual mods in intake, exhaust etc
