ive been looking around for some new brake discs and found a good price on ebay for all four.  They look ok and are only grooved and not drilled which i prefer, anyone else purchased them???

Also in the ebay ad it says:
"THESE DISCS are HIGH QUALITY and CAN BE ZINC PLATED SILVER ,GOLD or BLACK PHOSPHATE TO PREVENT RUST..at £19.99 (For the 4)."

is this worth doing????

i have a set and they are good

just make sure you give the bells a bit of silver / black hammerite before you put them on or get him to coat em (think he charges a bit extra for that) and do the obvious - like get all the oily stuff off them, and bed them in etc.

chrisJDM

cool cheers, did you get the zinc coating done on yours?

Timmy

They are probably blue print oem ones that have had grooves machined in. I wouldn\'t expect any real performance improvment.

well my current discs came on the car, ive had it 3 years, they are grooved disks but im not sure which make, where would it usually say on them???  Im changing the pads and doing a fluid change so thought i might do the discs aswell as im not sure what condition the current ones are in.

i bought the fronts only for £100 i think. cheaper than stock items LOL. this guy makes disks for all sorts of cars and no one i know round here who has these has had a problem with them.

ok - i know they are very cheap. they arnt stock items as they come in a yellow box that doesnt have blueprint written on them (i cant remember the make sorry)

anyway as a measure of performance -- i managed to lock the front wheels at 90mph before abs kicked in - during an emergency manouvre (sp) on the motorway, (nob head in a mondeo decided to cut me up then gives me the finger as i go past!!!) anyway my point is they do work lots better then the stock ones i had, good feel nice bite but controllable, trust me its a mucho improvement not had them fade on me either.

I didnt get the zinc coating done - no - lol, now i have to hammerite them cos they all brown rusty colour but i have some silver hammerite and when i get round to it they will look like new again!

Im looking at getting some decent brakes too. I was looking at these http://www.turboimport.com/catalog/rx7.htm but dont want the dimples as they are prone to cracking and he wants a fortune to post them over here.

chrisJDM

wot i might do is take of my current ones and get them tested and see if they are ok, if they are warped or badly worn will get some new ones.

RobbieRX-7

do that yourself. If there is a deep lip on the edge of the disk or any ripples on the surface of the disk they are worn. To test if they are warped just find a long downhill where you can get a good 80mph. press the brakes hard and If the wheel starts to shake, they are warped, or use a dial test indicator with magnetic base on each disk

chrisJDM

cool sounds good i will take a look at them and give that a go :D cheers
