Just wondering which method is considered best for tuning, road or dyno? Leaving out the legality of road tuning.

I\'ve done a bit of road tuning myself, and it\'s not so hard. I do think it would be a lot easier on a steady-state dyno though!

I definitely wouldn\'t be mapping it myself, just wondering if I was taking 2 people who are equally skilled which would give me the better map, the guy who maps on the road or the guy that uses the dyno?

Hard to say. The guy on a static dyno may spend all day doing it. Much harder to tune cars all day long on the road. Although tuning the last bit on the road i\'ve been told can give better results because its a real life setup instead on just the airflow from the fans.

Both is a good way of setting up, both with positives and negatives.

As Shaun said do the bulk on the dyno then finish the map on the road. There is no way you can simulate airflow and friction losses on a dyno but its much quicker and easier to get the mapping close on one.

So generally if you were to choose one or the other but not both the better option would be the dyno as it\'s more fool proof?

I prefer road myself and most dyno tuners will finish off on the road anyway.

Alright thanks for that

Depends. How often do you drive on a Dyno and how often do you drive on a road?

Dragon tune on the road, and their results speaks for itself!

I wouldn\'t be overly worried about what hp they\'re capable of producing as long as it\'s reasonable and things are set to what they should be rather than over doing it. I get the impression that thats what alot of people judge a tuner on but there few high profile ones that i\'ve never heard a bad word about

Carl also tunes on the road too :)

RE:Worx tune on the dyno then on the road - and I found the driveability they achieved after the road mapping session was amazing but they might have done most of the work on the dyno before that for all I know.

I would choose based on how far they are away and how you get on with them, and how much they already know the car (in my case)
