Hi Guys/Girls,

Im planning to buy a broken Rx7,
The rex wont start, the owner says because of the carbon buildup. Stands still because of other projects.
It can be tow started, and runs strong he says. (turbo\'s also checked and are ok)
Also he says he did a compression test and 1 rotor had a 10% loss.

I was wondering if you could help me,
Does is sound common in anyway?
59k mark is the milage. (does it need a rebuilt straight away or can it be something else?)

Hope you can help me,

Thanks,

Cheers,

Nick

have u actually heard the car running as by rule of thumb dont trust anyone unless you see and hear it for yourself is the best advice i could give u

Jit

treat it as a blown engine...you cant buy a car that will only start by tow-starting as anything other than dead

Nicolai

Yes offcourse, buying it the cheap ;)

Thought of that myself(it will be a project), but is there an option that it can be something else?
When I make my trip (form abroad) he assures me that he can let me hear it run, it is drivable onces tow started.

Thanks for your time :)

Battery or Battery charger or something?

-cant edit above post anymore-

RemarkLima

If it turns on the starter but doesn\'t fire it could be low on compression as the tow start will run the motor much quicker than the starter can and get a higher compression to get it started.

That\'d be my first thoughts anyway.
Montego Blue 94 R2 FD3S... Bling not included.

i think you are kidding urself if you think that it might be any sort of easy fix. It does sound like low compression as Mark said above, tow starting will turn the engine over much faster and give higher starting compression.
How cheap is cheap?

Nicolai

I think 2k is cheap?

Anyone now a place for cheap good rebuilt company?

cheers

-low compression means dead engine?-

Martiny

Yep low compression = time for a rebuild of the engine. £1500 if you can do it yourself, or else £2500 - £3000 for a company to do it.

For 2k I\'d expect a very decent car with a duff engine, so make sure that you go over it very carefully (assuming it\'s an FD - 250-500 quid if it\'s an FC...). I\'d actually try to haggle him down a bit further, but that\'s just me.
