Hi Ed, real pleased yer fur is still intact:cool .

Anyway Joking apart I have tried to answer you questions as best I can as to why MRP does not wish to sell ACT products, like I said a lot of people have good results with ACT but as we know “some” do fail and “some” is far too many for us to be comfortable with.

1/ So are you not selling ACT because of what Exedy have told you?

No it’s actually nothing to do with Exedy’s comments, I had dealings with cars long before SHY/MRP ever formed that had run ACT and either found wore out very quick with cars with little power or came across cars that suffered bad clutch judder.

2/
Ok Exedy believe ACT are supplying Exedy standard pressure plates to korea to get them uprated...if they are improving the pressure plate whats the problem

According to what I was told today complaints came back to Exedy that the “uprated” pressure plates were Exedy “uprated” units.

After Exedy carried out an investigation and found that their supplied standard pressure plates were being sent to Korea being “uprated” and then failing,
Exedy stopped the contract as it was misuse of the Exedy product.

It\'s maybe worth noting as well that MRP have sold many Exedy clutches over the last four years of different types and never experianced a failure

3/ Have you ever sold ACT?

No as we have always felt that we need faith and confidence in the products we sell rather than just try and make a quick buck unfortunately we feel we cannot put this faith in ACT’s product and will add that this personal choice.

It’s also worth noting that as distributors of Centre Force clutch’s, Splitfire gauges, Racing Brake and AEM we actually like American products, but sadly not the American ACT product

Also what experiences have you had with ACT clutches?
(see No 1)

4/ Oh and whats up with EBC Brakes?

I have stated many times that with our experience of EBC has shown no quality control and have seen cars with 2 sets of supposedly identical pads where one would be like cardboard and the other like granite.

It also scared me a while back to see an FD with EBC disc’s that were not only cracked but bright blue with the heat they could not cope with.

I did a bit of research into EBC and was told the quality control problem apparently comes about because they approach companies in Tiwan and he who is cheapest gets the contract and that quality sufferers because of this.

For the reasons above MRP has never sold EBC products but I will say that I am puzzled by what we have found with their car stuff because they have a brilliant name in the bike world.

Hope this helps.

Apart form The Exedy we have sold, lots seem to get on with the OS Giken we do. almost feels like stock clutch.

I\'ve always liked OSG\'s, its my personal preference and has been since I got my silver FD in 2002 which came with one.

I can recall hearing (as in never seen a problem in person) one or two things about ACT - but on the other hand they are comparatively very cheap and the yanks mustve fitted zillions of them over the years; I cant see how they would be so popular if there really were major issues with quality or longevity.

I\'ve seen several Exedy failures, and experienced their response to warranty questions first hand. One specific case I recall was a CT-R with less than a thousand miles on a brand new clutch (not one of the cheaper ones either) and flywheel which looked like it had done 20K miles at the dragstrip! :D I\'m sure Blitz will recount the fun he had with his Pulsar clutches too ;)

A clutch often has a hard life at the end of the day - if you are unlucky you\'ll be replacing one ahead of time, regardless of the brand.

For a lot of people the ACT\'s present a very cost-efficient upgrade - and as a few above have shown, not looked back :)

Horses for courses, I\'d drive some ones FD with a clutch you are thinking of if poss, as they do tend to vary quite a bit - some ppl wont put up with the feel of some clutches which leads them to say they\'re **** when in fact they are probably very capable units.
