My Fd has started making a whirring noise - which seems to be a constant now, though particularly loud when turning at very low speeds.  Sounds like it may be coming from the belts but I have no idea really what it may be :o

Searched but still no clue.  My firsts thought was CV joints but then this wouldn\'t make a noise when going straight :3Confused

Any help appreciated :Thumbs-up

Not yet, am going to when it stops raining.  Surprised if its this though as the noise is not just when turning.

I guess it is more of a motor type noise yes

Our CV joints are at the  REAR of the car, and wouldnt be as pronounced a noise , when turning, as when they are faulty on a car with them at the front (front wheel drive).

Most likely the power steering fluid needs topping up.

But the power steering pump is turning all the time, not only when the wheels are turned.

There\'s some fluid in there, can\'t see the levels but will try topping it up anyway.

With CV joints I was thinking back to my old Integra - its a similar sort of noise.

Water pump bearing, Alternator bearing? belts too tight?
Good luck, cant see it being any more serious than that. did it start gradually and get worse?

Well its not power steering fluid as topping that up made no difference :(

Started very suddenly yesterday

Another possble is the power steering pump front bearing, think i,d start by slackening the belt for power steering, very slack! start it, if that cures it it narrows it down to steering pump (most likely i think) air con, not likely, if niether, tighten that belt up, see if there is any play in the water pump, but if it\'s that it probably be leaking too
