Hi Guys,
Does anyone know what the import duty rate is on imported car parts from the USA?? I can\'t seem to find it and have been told the rate varies depending on what you are importing?

I am specifically looking at a set of wheels and tyres..

Thank you
Lee

i thought it was always 4% + VAT (17.5%) whatever it is and no matter where it is from.

No it does vary.
Phone customs and excise, they will give you a product code and a duty fee.
ie spark plugs 3.2%, body parts 4.5%

I got a Rad from the states £375 to my door and import tax came to £32 (8.5%)which i paid on delivery - mate bought a full single turbo kit and fuel system total $7k and got charge £170...(4.9%)

I have heard stories of like said above with 17.5% charged on top - my friends and i are either very lucky or others a just un-lucky!! but never had a huge bill.... (Never more than 10%) I do always get UPS to deliver though  from japan or the states - might be the reason?!?!

Varies also due to the shipping company the company abroad uses,

I always remember years ago getting charged £27 over the top for four plugs from america, this was duty/Vat AND access shipping fee !.

We get the same with our company\'s Turbo kits that come in from Australia, we pay £600 when the kits arrive and we have complained and our company out there have tried shipping them differently but it still comes out the same.

This means even if the Customs people tell you one thing you may still be charged something totally different due to the Shipping company who delivers wanting more.
All the best Clive

Thanks for all the info guys.. My project is making progress by the way.. See my other post!
I guess I will have to wait and see.. but anyhting around 4% is fine.. I was expecting VAT on top of that too.. so if I miss that bonus!!

Cheers

4% would be duty only, you get a customs handling charge from shipper and VAT on total amount.
