I\'m defo goin for the FD! lol

I was just wondering if anyone in the Manchester / Greater Manchester / Merseyside/ NW area would mind taking me out for a blast just to see what the badboy feels like on boost?? obviously the beer tokens and petrol are on me :)

Can the Apexi be setup not to allow boost till it reaches safe/optimum temperature? hence no damage to engine? or would it be possible to setup like a gauge that beeps when ready to boost type thing?

gonna cost a bit, but willing to pay the extra for such a good car! looks amazing and goes like stink! only about 9 mile return trip to work, but will take the long way via the dual carriageway just to hit redline#

Anyone know how much them pop off steering wheels are? big job?

Cheers again!

You\'ve already got such a device - it\'s called a timid right foot while you\'re watching the water temp on the Apexi Commander :D.

oh, so its just water temp i should be bothered about, not oil pressure/temp or anything?

Just general figures really mate.
Just make sure eveything is pretty much spot on before giving it some right foot.LOL

Both - I wait until about 80oC on both (water temp via commander, oil temp via gauge) before giving it any beans.

EDIT - oh, and I keep it below 2k rpm and off boost until then too. As long as you have a boost gauge, Commander and/or accurate oil and water temp gauges and some discipline then you\'ll be fine :)

Alex

80 degress oil!? I can\'t get mine that high unless I\'m absolutely ragging it!

Which version have you got (i.e. single or twin oil coolers) and whereabouts is the temp sender situated?

I have to say I was surprised that mine reads so low, my DC5 runs up to 100 degrees at motorway speeds and I assumed the FD would go higher as I thought the engine runs hotter. I certainly don\'t take the figures as accurate, more a guide as to the overall temperature (i.e. too cold for boost /getting warm/normal cruising temp/lots of boost and needs a cool-down!)

Funnily enough, 80 degress is the oil temp I wait for on the DC5 before going over 3k RPM (VTEC is at 4.5k). I certainly stay off-boost/under 2.5k RPM in the FD for about 10 minutes from a cold start. Even at that engine speed you can hear the twins beginning to spool!

You won\'t get it warm enough to cane it in only 4 miles!

Single oil cooler. From other posts on the topic 80 degrees for oil is fine, if it\'s too low it\'s not runny enough ;) I only see over 95 on track or other extremes like stuck in traffic mid-summer.

The temp sensor is on a sandwich plate for the oil filter.

Yeah, that\'s my feeling too, in some ways I\'d like it to get hotter!

Temp sender position is same for me, although I have twin coolers, so that\'s probably the difference. Nothing to say the sender isn\'t working properly either!

I also notice my oil temp rises quite quickly at standstill, presumably a mix of lack of moving air around the coolers and heat soak.

Hi mate,

Have a mate who owns an fd in Yorkshire and Manchester. Drop me an e mail and I\'ll put you in touch. :burnout

Yeah I quess the twin coolers make the difference, my mate\'s FD with those didn\'t get over 90oC oil on track when I was getting 100-odd.

Heat soak is noticeable on mine too, considering the cooler rads are quite small, no fan assistance and the oil is being used to cool the motor then it\'s to be expected. The good thing is that the temp drops quickly enough once the car is moving again :)

Cheers,
Alex

Oil temp is fine once over 70oC guys, if you have the commander unit once the water reaches say 78oC you will have to wait approx another 5 mins before oil is at temp too, dont assume oil is at temp just because the water is right :Thumbs-up

Better still get a oil temp gauge installed to be sure :Thumbsup!

Mine sits below 70 degrees when cruising, even after two hours of driving! :xconfused

Could just be the sender to be honest, or probably the fact that I was cruising at 70mph+ off-boost when I noticed. I can\'t see it being unsafe to go WOT if the engine\'s been running for that long, even if the oil temp says 55-60 degrees. Water was ~81-84, depending on the weather.
