Took the car out last night and went for a drive round, pulled up at the traffic lights behind a standardish integra dc2 type r, he turned right then accelerated hard along a straight, i followed and tried to keep up and couldnt, wheels span quite a bit and the back end was all over the place.

I then went of and tried accelerating hard from a standing start, got a good pull away and could feel the back end tritching a bit then changed into second and accelerated hard and the wheels span a bit and the back end was all over the place.

I have recently changed the suspension to coilovers and havent had the wheel alignment done yet, do you think this is maybe the problem?

Also my diff is not braced which ive been looking at doing.

Jimjitsu

I have this problem as well after going single intrested to see if you find a way to lock it down a bit im all over the place

Alex T

yes, I\'d say not having the wheel alignment done yet would cause this slightly.
What width wheels/tyre are you running?

Alex T

Also, what make of tyres? As I found my Eagle F1\'s never used to like certain things, until FULLY warmed up!!

chrisJDM

Ive got quite big wheels on it, 18 x 9.5J running tyres 265/35 18

The tyres are falken i think which arent the best.

My old saxo turbo used to spin like a bitch in wet and dry with Falkens on. Swapped them for Pirelli P-Zero Nero (or whatever they\'re called) and didn\'t spin in 2nd,3rd 4th etc, like it used to!

check your tyre pressures, if they are too high it will cause this,    consider softening your rear shocks a little,  check the alignment............ but ultimately this is a big issue with going single,  the power has to come in eventually,  i find now i\'m back on seq twins, my rear tyres lasted twice as long on the track and the car is a lot more composed than the single turbo but a little less exciting.  Definately quicker round the track though even with less power.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

im still on twins, the spinning isant too bad the main problem is controlling the back end even in a straight line.  im gonna get the whhel alignment done which should help, but i expect the diff may be a issue aswell as im running hopefully near 400bhp @ fly with standard diff and no brace.

andysmee

1. softer tyre compound
2. lower rear pressures
3. soften rear suspension (compared to front)

If you\'re managing to pull away without the rear wheels skipping/bouncing then the diff brace may not be required straight away.

In any case, the above is going to cost you in tyres, P-Zero\'s aren\'t going to last long, especially if you drop the pressure slightly.

Of course you could drop to 17\'s to get more flex and put the power down better.

The last point is a bit patronising but don\'t take it the wrong way...how about accelerating less hard?! Human traction control...

i have to admit when i changed from the standard wheels to the 18\'s i did loose a slight edge on acceleration, although the handling has improved.  So what are the top tips for better pull aways, and acceleration down low, i know alot have issues with this:

1. Better tyres?
2. Diff Brace?

nikp

I run falkens on mine and I find they\'r great. Don\'t really have a problem with skittishness. Occasionally the back steps out, but not very often. I guess driving style is down to it partially, but I don\'t have half the problems you\'re having.

chrisJDM

well it seems to be pretty bad now ive changed the suspension so i reckon its probably down to the wheel alignment, as its probably out by quite alot, hopefully once that is done will be alot better

Jimjitsu

I dont get any jumping or skipping just ****e loads of spin then again my tyres are crapola so im gonna start there ill let you know if it helps

tezz12345

weel alighnment is def the problem before i had mine done it was skittish all over the place and braking hard from speed it slewed all over the road and felt very unsafe really. i have tein coilovers and 18s zero tyers, felt really dodgey before weels where alighned now its great

chrisJDM

cool thanks, im sure thats def my problem as its only been like it since ive changed suspension, so its probably well out.  I also get the same when braking, doesnt feel to safe at high speeds lol
