Hi all,

Bit of a weird one this.. on saturday i started hearing a strange rattling/clunking kind of sound from the rear drivers side of my FD. It lasted about 20 seconds and as i was coming to a stop to check it out it gave a clunk and then stopped.

I looked under and although one of the plastic undertray pieces on the left has broken away and is hanging down on one corner nothing else seems amiss.

I figured it must have been a stone caught in that tray or something.

Sunday went to Donny and had no problems at all, but at lunchtime today driving back to work it came back for about 20 seconds only this time MUCH louder and nastier. Then it stopped after i slowed down and straightened up (I was turning slightly left at the time) and hasn\'t done it again yet - even when i tested it on full lock left and full lock right.

But it sounded really bad and i\'m worried it could be the diff going or a wheel bearing or something?? Any ideas?

Cheers

sounds like a cv joint unfortunately. friend had a similar problem too. turned out to be a few missing tooth in his diff.
have you had it up and a jack and axle stands and had a good writhe around under it ? might be wortha try just in case.

mine makes similar noises - when slowing hear some clunking - also when putting into gear which i think is the cv joints on the prob-shaft. problem is i have been told to get them fixed i have to send the whole shaft away!

mine clunked from the rear end when slowing. wasnt a continuos clunk tho. it was worn bushes.

Had it up on stands... couldnt see anything wrong (apart from one corner of a plastic tray slightly loose but it can\'t be that.

Hoping it\'s not the cv joint. If it\'s a missing tooth in the diff that could be a pain too. I was really hoping it was a wheel bearing cos that should be a (fairly) easy fix...

imo cv joint would proably be easier! all your bushes ok?

if its the wheel bearing jack the car up and grab the wheel at opposite sides vertically and then horizonatally. rock the wheel back and forth using each grip in turn. if it has play its your bearing. if not its more terminal :(
