My Car is a J 1992 import - it has 2 oil coolers, suede seats, rears leather seats, had yellow fog lights, no sun roof and red strut brace. It has a red RX7 logo on the back.

So:
I thought my rx7 was a type R - But my mechanic thinks the rear suspension is not Coilovers :-(

I thought all type R\'s had coilover????????????

One of my Rear shocks has gone so i need to buy a new one - but what am i meant to be looking for and where would I buy it??

My VIN is FD35 - 108106 if this helps - I know people have Databases which can tell what the car is from factory!!

Martiny

Well, I dont think it has adjustable coilovers as standard.

Paul1982

I\'m sure i read up that the first type r\'s was total race cars and the coilovers was standard - knowing me i\'m wrong lol

So where can i get the standard shocks from??

Use the search function :Thumbs-up

Have search mate - nothing helped!

No mate. Your is an R1 like mine. It has stiffer sportier shock absorbers than the rest of the range, but no coilovers. No rx7 ever came with coilovers.  I think it was the type RZ came with bilstein shocks, but still not coilovers. I have some spare R1 spec shocks with springs. Which corner do you need?. The suspension setup never changed during the life of the fd rx7 except for some minor differences to the rear subframes on later models, but this still makes any shock fit any fd

Hi Rob,

So how many miles have your shocks done before taking off the car mate as i\'m only looking for the one but its point less putting it on if its only got a little bit of life left in it :-)

Let me know

Cheers

I\'ve been quoted by Jap spares cardiff £96 + vat (£113) for a single rear :-(
Thought that was expensive personally - what do you guys think??

Just had a look in the shed and i have 2 front shocks and 1 rear from my 92 R1 with 48000 miles on them. The actual shocks don\'t have any leaks. You can have 1 for £15 +postage

You *really* (really, really, really!!!) should be replacing both rears of the same wear and age, not just one.

That is really expensive IMHO, you can get a koni insert shock for that kind of money I\'m sure! I\'d say for a pair of 2nd hand Type R struts you\'d look at £50 for the pair IMHO.

Oh, and they all have coilovers ;) Just means that the spring and damper are one unit with the coil spring over the damper, rather than the old leaf springs and seperate damper and other weird and wonderful setups (like Ford\'s control blade and such like).

I think he meant coilovers as in the expensive adjustable coilovers that most people  upgrade to from standard shocks and springs:Tongue1

:D Pretty sure everybody does ;)

But it\'s just spreading the lies I tell you!!! Lies all of them!!!!

I\'ll have the one rear shock then Robbie - How much do you think post age will be.
My car only has 40k\'ish miles on it so they would be at similar wear
