I\'ve had something like this scard me half to death. Turned out to be the power steering pump was low on fluid.

Agree with Rich, is quite likely to be a gasket.  Does the noise get better when the engine hots up ?  If so then defo a gasket.

I have the same problem, been trying to figure it out for ages now....

Comes from near or under the intake manifold, and increases in "ticking speed" with rev increase, what do you reckon??

Can also be heard inside the car, and am completely stumped... Car runs fine, no other problems with it.... Any ideas anyone ??

Well it\'s not power steering fluid and it\'s not anything hitting anything (external to the chambers anyway) but deffo sounds mechanical, imagine a quieter version of a flasher relay but with a more consistent rhythmic tick.... Am thining primary or secondary injectors, or a solenoid, do these tick/click ???

Seriously, though, could be someting hitting a pulley or belt, like was said earlier? I had a ticking noise, though quite faint, that eventually turned out to be the trailing end of a cable tie that was catching a pulley very so often. Especially annoying to trace cos it was intermittent

On a lot of other engines it\'s often a sign of a knackered pre turbo gasket AFAIK :)

lol when i got my engine running again after fitting bigger secondarys and connecting the boost controller up for the first time (was already on there) i had the ignition on which powered the controller and i kept hearing this ticking/buzzing from some where and couldnt find it for ages.

was the solenoid lol
