Hi all,

Am looking to go back to the world of RX7 after a 5 year abstainance.

A (fairly) local dealer to me reckons that he has sourced a 2001 model (Y reg) RX7 \'SE Special Edition\' from a private buyer.

I\'ve done a bit of nosing around and can\'t find any details on such a beast. Have any of you heard of this model ?

He reckons it\'s full leather, lightweight (I do wonder why with leather trim.. ?), has been serviced at Brooklands since imported. I\'ve yet to see photos, etc, but would be interested to see if anyone here knows of such a car.

Cheers in advance, Craig

p.s. can anyone recommend anywhere for late model RX7s ?

Ah, a backslider!  Hope to see you back in a Rotary soon!

Talk to Migual @ Newera, Brian @ Rotary Imports or Ross @ Dragon.  They should be able to source a car from Japan to youur spec and budget.

Have spoken to Miguel and also Ben Linney so far, have surfed a couple of other sites - rotary performance and dragon included, but seem to only turn up older examples.

I know they can all do a search in Japan for the perfect match, but I\'m itching to get in an RX again, and the wait would kill me.

I\'d prefer to try and source a decent car (99/00/01) in the UK - only there is certainly a shortage...

Cheers for advice, Craig

Hi Craig,

I have a 99 car, with 33K, innocent blue with volk racing 5 spoke wheels, tein coilovers, blitz cat back and a R-Magic rear spoiler.
I will get some pics and post them.
My avatar shows the rear spoiler.

Hi, I have a 2001 RX7-RS. I have had the car for less than 2 months after owning a lovely 1992 touring model for over 4 years.

I didn\'t think that there would be much difference in performance in terms of what you would notice in the flesh, rather than whats said on paper.

I didn\'t think they could make the 3rd generation much better, but after driving the 2001 (series 8) RS around the first corner you
could feel how much better the bilstein suspension is.

The series 8 was only available in Japan, the 1999 versions have black gauges, with the R/RS ones having the 6 o\'clock rev counter.

Mine has white gauges, like the Spirit R model has.

The touring model ones are always heavier, they have more sound proofing for the excellant Bose stereo, cruise control and leather seats which add 50 to 60 kilos.

My RS weighs 1280 Kg, I think my series 6 touring was 1310 Kg.

Also my RS has a close ratio gear box, even less turbo lag than
the Series 6, different turbo bearings that last longer, 17 inch tyres standard, adjustable rear spoiler, and a much lower engine
bay temperature due to the much bigger engine intakes at the front of the car.

Very impressive machine, I have videos of the RS blowing away all of the other Japanese supercars, including the much talked about (and boring in my view) R-34 Skyline.

Can put up a couple of pics of you like...

Cheers

Hi Craig,

I\'ve just spent a while researching which model FD to buy and as well as the excellent info on this forum and that notorious thread that everyone always links to regarding model info :D  I also stumbled across these two pages which helped make my mind up that I wanted a post 1999 type RS....

rx-7 model info

edited to say : I also found it impossible to find a car to that spec in the UK - I guess everyone who\'s imported one just hangs onto it :rollin In the end, I have got one via Newera who found exactly what I was after.

cheers,

Andy.
