Not a question this time, but a solution!

My red rex has had some weird idle issues since I changed the engine. sometimes it idled high, sometimes low, sometimes very rough, backfiring at odd points. You name it, it did it! Throttle repsonse was also very bad. I could never sort it out. I had it in with Carl, who improved things by sorting out an air leak and rats nest error or two, but I ran out of money and had to stop him with it still not right. (I\'m not trying to say Carl doesn\'t know what he\'s doing - he was very helpful - just illustrate how much of a PITA this problem was) Motor has great compression, no water seal failure, no air leaks, petrol flowing fine at this point.

I was at my wits end last year, and put her to bed. I\'ve recently taken her out from under the covers, and my brother and I spent last night going through _every_ single hose in the rats nest to double check it against the diagram. It was spot on, apart from the little hose that runs from the front of the relief 1 solenoid back underneath the rats nest. When I replaced the rats nest hoses I obviously made it 1/2 inch too long, and it was pushing up against the back of the ignition tray, and had crimped itself shut having got jammed underneath to some extent. I honestly didn\'t expect it to make that much difference, but I started her up today - it was waaaay too late last night - fiddled with the idle settings a bit, and she\'s now perfect! That one poxy little hose was causing that whole problem.

Hope this helps someone at some point if they encounter a similar thing.
Next rex will be old school, I\'m fed up with all this comlicated crud that fouls up the FD bay. Oldone\'s engine bays always looks so neat and uncluttered.....

Glad to hear you have got it sorted out now.

The alternative to rats nests of course, is a single tubby! (You could always get the smallest type appropriate if you like the driveability of the twin turbo)

Cheers :)

Don\'t tempt me!
I always feel it\'s a completely different discipline working with carbs and a mechanical dizzy compared to working with fuel injection though. I\'ve got a bit caught up in the high tech stuff and kinda miss the old school way of doing things. But then when I\'m working with a carb I get frustrated I can\'t ask the computer what\'s wrong! I can\'t win....
