Hi guys

For some time now I have been very interested in buying a 95 type r (280bhp) version rx7.  But I have some queries, apologise if you answer these frequently.  I currently have a mazda mx5 1.6 which is very good but I need more power+rx7\'s handle better.

-How reliable is the rx7 if serviced (oil/filter/spark plugs regularly)
-I currently service my own car, how user friendly are these cars compared to mx5\'s? Maintenance costs high?
-What is the fuel consumption, read on previous threads that this is around 18mpg - is this correct or can you get more on the motorway - 25?

My main concern is the fuel economy and reliability of the rotary engine, looks a little daunting when the engine side is completely new to me.

Cheers for your help

i get 600 km on the motorway to a full tank...maybe a touch more....if im totally off boost

I could be wrong but I thought that 99 spec RX7s were 280 bhp, the earlier ones were about 255 bhp ?

Service it once a year and change the oil every 3000 miles, pretty easy to do, sparkplugs are on the passenger side of the engine so easy to change from underneath. Everything else is pretty straightforward. Parts will be much more expensive than your MX5 I would have thought because with the MX there are some great places like MX5parts, Moss etc that let you get only the bits you want. With an RX7 you have to go to Mazda directly !! Not cheap ! Although there is a wealth of 2ndhand parts from people who have enjoyed the boost a bit too much lol

I would not recommend one as an everyday car unless you have deep pockets !!!

Fueling is as bad as you say, no way round this, round town is the killer.

But the looks you get whilst in it and the smoothness of the rotary engine will get you hooked !!!
