Well it failed on Lights (Beam, Pattern), Emissions, Wiper blades, and Corrosion on the under side of door sills, and in front of rear wheel on drivers side.

Booked in for welding on Tuesday then !

I\'m sticking the old lights back in for the retest.

Oh the joy of owning cars

So you wont be going to the ace cafe in the fc then??

seems strange seeing a MOT failure thats not been started by me :D

its not tooo bad matey - how much welding is needed - is there LOADS or just little plates

i did the one infront of the rear wheel on the drivers side just before mine got MOT\'d - must be a common place for them ??

its not all doom and gloom matey

emmissons could be a pain to sort out though - i take it you have no air pump on ?

Prof,

I\'ve always had trouble with the old emissions and was told from good authority that a car registered before 1992 was not subject to the same emission testing ie if cats removed and so on.

Every MOT I\'ve had they\'ve used the chart with RX7 Cats fitted, I point out there not fitted and explain in length and then fail the test

This link might explain what I\'m on about  http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/catalytic_mot.php

you will get it sorted Dave,  doesnt sound too bad,  bit of work.  Make sure they do good job on the welding, you dont want to have to do it again next year.

I\'m lucky with emissions,  the power FC is handy for reducing the fueling at idle, my MOT guy said "thats lean" although i wound it so far down it would barely idle.

I was well chuffed, mine passed last wekend first time.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

rx7veilside

can u do a point by point explanation for dropping the fuelling enought to get below 3.5%..thks

antnicuk

go to settings, then pim voltage, then \'next\', then go down to 1000rpm, go across and then reduce the percentage until it passes.

is it correct the system will reset as soon as u turn it off and on again

paul3944

I take it must be possible to do this with a Microtech anyone know how

no, the settings stay , just p it back to what it was before, usually 100%

Hi chaps - back after a gruelling weekend :(

Lights are no bother - I\'m just going to put the old bulbs back in for the retest.  It will be going to Dave at Thames Valley next year, where HID headlights with a halogen main beam are actually understood.  Time was against me after the prang early in May, which meant I couldn\'t get it book in there.

Emissions - there is an adjust screw on the AFM, hopefully with a bit of tweeking we can get it under the 3.5% CO without running too high an idle speed.

Welding - 2 plates needed under the inside of the seam along where the door is - They were being very picky - the rust is not excessive here, and if I\'d wire brushed the loose off and undersealed, they would not have been any the wiser.  But going to get a couple of plates welded in.

The more contentious issue is the front of the rear wheel arch - it\'s rusted into the very corner, but not actaully at a point where it\'s structural, but the rules say within 30cm - so it\'s going to be wearing an ugly plate until late June when it goes into the body shop for a full respray and that piece will be replaced completely.

My 88 vert doesnt need a emmsion test for MOT, thought it was 1995 onwards, ??

Pre 96 Jap imports and pre 92 or 93 UK cars need only pass the older test which is 3.5% CO at idle (there is no fast idle test).

They test for CO (<3.5%), HC (<1200ppm), idle speed (not sure what upper rpm is allowed) and steadiness of idle
