hi all, I don\'t know if this is a stupid question but here goes.
When I take the key out of the ignition after driving, it is hot to the touch.  This is my first RX so I don\'t know if this is normal. What could be causing it and is it a potential problem/danger?

cheers all

There is a light down there to help you see where to put the key in, does it stay on when you\'ve started the car?

ttpower

if your key is all metal, then it prob will as there a live wires on the barrel. Also there is a heater diversion just located behind it which might be pointing in the wrong direction!!

Could be a short ?
Like, only happens with ignition is on, so ignition power is shorted?

Down beside your shins theres a small vent.Make sure the hose is attached at the back of it. Warm keys would be useful for heating your hands in the winter though. Cheers Phil

the light does stay on.
the area round the auto shift is also warm to the touch. hope this is not a potential problem!

The area around the auto-shift will be hot. There is a bulb that illuminates which gear you are in. That said this bulb should only be on while you have your lights on. Not sure regards the key being hot, like the others say on here it sounds like some sort of electrical short. Best get it checked out if you know of an autoelectrician get them to give it the once over........cheers Leigh.
