please please please please can someone help??

drove the car out today....all was well & good...

on my way home i went to accellerate in 2nd and where i would only usually hear the "whoosh" noise when i let my foot off the accelerator it started to make a whooshing noise as i was accelerating!?? it does it in all gears (apart from 1st) and only comes in when i accellerate then gets louder as i continue to accelorate??

thought it could be a vac pipe off or something but only thing i can see that isnt attached to something is a pipe that comes from the back of the plenum to a small blitz thingy then goes down behind the rad but thought that was just a breather pipe?? any ideas?? got its MOT in the morning too :2Confused any help really really appreciated!!

LRP

sounds like a split intercooler pipe my guess lower one if it still has standard cooler?? giv it a sqeazze
complete wankel :god

Techno numpty here but could it be the waste gate is stuck open ......... Every so often, especially if I have had a period of not caning the car when I accelerate I can get a whooshing sound as I accelerate ..... a damn good thrashing usually sorts it out so it holds the boost as I accelerate.

I had that problem once and it was due to my elbow to throttle body not being done up properly ( oops ! )

check your ic piping :D

that would make sense..... if i was going off the sound its making.... is it safe (for the engine) for me to give it a good thrashing?? if so.. ill be back in 15 mins.. :Thumbs-up

ill check over all the pipes & go give it a good drive .... WGT gave her a once over a week ago.... im assuming they\'d check for loose piping e.t.c.... maybe.... dunno.... il check as much piping as i can get to before i go out....

can anyone confirm that the pipe with the orange arrow on the pic shouldnt actually go to anything?????????

interloper393

nah thats just a air feed i think for the hks filters, i took mine off lol.. and intercooler pipes man, ma last car did exact same.. only acceleration made the noise

that pipe should go to the airpump but since yours is removed im thinking it should`nt fit to anything.

id check all the plastic bits make sure theres no broken ones.

Tango

thrashing complete........ no joy  .......

although when i hit the really high notes it does go away a bit ...

im baffled............maybe after the MOT i might try running her up to WGT & see what pip thinks (if they can fit me in)

its quite a loud ssshhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH type noise???

if it is the wastegate is there any other way of getting it working??
   any more ideas anyone??

Hmmm ..... I think Carl told me that sometimes this can happen and booting the ECU can fix it .......... I think you just disconnect the ECU and then re-connect it ...... this cropped up a while ago and I have a terrible memory so not really sure ........ contact him and see what he says.

Carl Hayward at Hayward Rotary

Have to say though that if this is happening in all the gears then it is more likely to be something leaking.

It only tended to happen to me when I floored it at low revs in say 4th gear.

its a split i/c pipe,  only shows when under boost.   stick your head in engine bay and rev it hard.  you will see/hear it.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Tango

tried that earlier & it doesnt seem to happen when just revving it... only when actually driving & putting my foot down a bit...?????????

i need a "crying" smily lol :2Confused :2eek :3Confused

James B

The only pipe I split was the flat hard plastic one under the strut brace ..... think that is quite common.
