she goes pretty well, she has about 170BHP, and 220lbs/ft of torque (these figures came from the previous owner).  The clutch thrust bearing has gone and I have only driven a few hundred miles in her so far,and it is too early to judge.

I had a Impreza WRX and a TVR Chimeara as my last 2 cars, an I don\'t think it would compete.  But she will pull hard from 1500RPM in any gear, she can light up the back tyres in any gear (although I need new rubber) and she makes a fantastic noise.

I am pleased, she won\'t be winning any drag races against seriously fast cars, but she will hold he own against most.

Thanks for the replys.

Nice
When my old lump blew up I was considering wacking a rover V8 in (to the horror of of some luddites).
Went for a turbo rotary in the end, but I always wonder what it would have been like with the V8.........
Now with added boost!  :burnout

Another one!
I\'ve never seen another of these conversions before. Well not on a Mk 1 anyway. Welcome to the very exclusive RX-7 Mk1 V8 owners club. Here\'s a link to mine:

Nice to see another one.  Did you have problems with the rev counter and speedo.  Mine are out by quite a way.  I have the V8 up at 8k revs, and easily of the clock.  80MPH is 100 on the speedo, and I easily get it of the clock.  I haven\'t looked at the back axle but I don\'t think it is std, or as you say i would be stuggling to get past 90.

Did powerflow do your exhaust, I have an effective but jerry rigged one at the moment.  What sort of price was it?

I have carbs on mine as you will have seen, was the EFI unit a nightmare to wire up?

WizardOf

Hiya,

Yes had plenty of \'technical difficulties\' with the clocks to work out.. The speedo problem I solved with a bit of a radical solution though.. changed the rear axle and gearbox..! the SD1 box and capri LSD coupled with the wheel and tyre size give me the right ratio for the clock to be accurate. the rev counter however, i had to get from an old P6 rover and have converted to run with an efi engine. Carb engine will run with one as is..
The EFI isnt too difficult to do if you get hold of a set-up which has the wiring harness with it. Then its just a case of identifying which wire goes where. Plenty of V8 sites will have wiring diagrams for them too. Just takes a bit of time and patience (found that out the hard way!!)
As for the exhaust, yes its custom built by Powerflow as I wanted it to look similar to the original twin pipe box the 7 had to start with. Was about £600 fitted and its stainless, so not too bad. Sounds awesome too!
Hope this lot helps a bit.. :Thumbs-up
Cheers!!

Thanks for the advice, the rev-counter is the one thing I need fixed most.  I will get an exhaust soon, the other one is annoying me.  Offf to find a few upgrades for the engine (like a webber for instance (if it will fit)).

WizardOf

Lol... the upgrades have started :-)  theres no going back now. If you need advice on the engine then the V8 forum is a good place to look, lots of knowledagble people there. As for bits. I\'ve got a lot of mine from ebay! Amazing what you can find there.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers!

I will keep you posted, I am of to have a look at the diff now and see what it is.  Looking at the webber I am not sure it will fit.  I might have t go down the efi route.  So a nice 4l TVR engine would be good.  I need to find out how old my engine and gearbox are, I guess there will be somewhere on the web I can find this out once I have the engine serial number.  I have a std radiator, which with a kenlowe seems to work fine, fan cuts in in trafic, but the engine bay isn\'t hot, after a previous TVR I am impressed.

The other thing that I have found is I get 30+MPG on the motorway do you get anything like that?  I get about 20 in town.

I bet it sounds nice though! (and the spares are cheaper too...)

30Mpg!!!!

blimy!! are you not using the \'loud\' pedal?!!!  Doubt mine does more than 19..  but then, I can\'t resist the sound it makes :) The serial number should be easy. Mines on the lhs just above the exhaust manifold. the v8 forum site will be able to tell you how old the engine is as well..  Sounds like you want to take the same route as me.. I have a 5.0l tvr griffith engine sat in my garage just awaiting a few more parts, then thats replacing my current 3.9.. can\'t wait!!!
You\'ve done well with the cooling too.. I was having all sorts of problems keeping mine in the green.. have it sorted now, but its taken some time and lots of experimentation... Looks like I should have kept the old rad after all!!

Rx7V8

off to the TT tomorrow, so no playing with cars for a while, the 5.0l V8 is a ******* to cool apparently but exhaust rap and your cool rad should do the trick.  The Griffith Rad is tiny really but has 2 kenlowes.

Will log in again next week, I will no doubt be asking for advice.
