Just been checking my oil and was greeted by this...

Kinda concerned....as in.....very!! Any ideas? :xconfused :(

moisture in the oil

usually good sign of a headgasket failure in a piston engine. There is nearly allways a little bit arround the oil filler cap i have found not as much as you have though. dont know what it could be on a roatary.

My boost hose blew off the other day and I had to drive it quite far to get it home could it have been that? It was a dry day from what I remember mind. I was off boost all the way too.

CraigN

nah theres no way that much moisture could get in the oil that way

I\'d say headgasket too ;)

But on these isn\'t a headgasket the same as water seals in essence? :(

Are you loosing coolant?

I posted the same worry a few weeks ago, mine looked pretty much the same.

Got a few replies seems it could be normal?
I don\'t seem to be loosing coolant either, so still a little confused.

Brett

Thats not normal IMO!

I would say you are in the early stages of water seal failure - fill the water up and start the engine. (Leaving the cap off) Watch the surface of the water for tiny bubbles - if you start to see them then its trouble I\'m afraid.

mmmm can i have tuna with that mayo :0) mine looked like that a few weeks back , took the filler neck off and washed it out nice an clean and its never come back again , so dunno ????

Rang Pip, he said it\'s nothing to be worried about? Coolant hasn\'t gone down any.

Yep, the yanks call it lung musturd. Sometimes its caused by an open vent on the oil filler neck system. Don\'t think they class it as a big issue.

Not sure if an oil flush would help the issue.

It\'s going to WGT for a service very soon anyway. I papped myself when I looked inside though! lol

Have you done a few short journeys? It can build up due to that.

Otherwise I would say it is the begining of water seal failure too...

If you use the car everyday then this will happen unless you give it a good chance to properly heat up - I mean something like 20+ miles everytime you go out.

It\'s pretty harmless unless your coolant level\'s are dropping.  It\'s just the condensation is forming when the car cools down and doesn\'t burn off completly before the end of the journey so it builds up more and more.

Totaly normal, unless you do longish jurnies!! mine gets like that, but a good run & all is crysal clear!! like mentiond above, give her a good run & you should find it will dissapear!! this is also normal over the winter period so come october dont be worrying too much if it returns!!

Good luck with her mate
