The title is the question...

I have read a how to on how to convert from sequential to non-sequential...

But what my question relates to is what are the advantages and disadvantages when converting from sequential to non-sequential?

I have a UK spec car, so will be keeping it twin set-up as they are becoming very rare. Just wondering if this is a worthwhile mod. If so why and if not why?

Thanks all.

Most people will do this mod if there having boost trouble, mainly you weld one side of the turbo open and it acts like a single, you cn also then remove loads of vac hoses :)

Power is the same, some find it laggyish some dont.. replace all the vav hoses n valves/solonoids and you`ll be fine on the twin setup lol.. maybe :S

simpler to maintain, fewer problems and easier fault finding.

more predictable boost

more fun depending on which way you look at it

i was also of thinking of getting this done i hear you can get it done from hayward but i mite have hear wrong.

I was told that it takes any reputable Rotary specialist around 30-mins to an hour to do. So shouldn\'t cost that much. Just don\'t see the ups and downs of having this done apart from the fact that it MAY be a more reliable setup.

Im having this done as soon as i can get a day off work along with a new map so will let you know what its like compared to sequential.

theres 2 ways to do it, one is a temporary, cheap and easily reversible way, the other needs the turbo pack to be taken off to do it, more expensive and isnt reversible. Not sure of exactly how its done tho. Carl hayward does do it, check his link to his website, expains a little about it on there.
Ive had it done to mine, the boost doesnt come in till a little higher revs (about 3000 iirc) allowing you to cruise off boost easier and lowering fuel consumption. Also you get rid of the nasty flat spot when the 2nd turbo is spooling up. Well worth doing in my opinion. Dont quote me on this, but i think Carl is so confident youll like it that if you dont, he\'ll reverse it for free (when done the cheap way)
Food for thought guys

What Andy said is correct.

There is NO increase in power.

You lose boost at low revs.

But there is no transition.

True, although i was told when having mine done that it would make it quicker up the strip because youve lost the flat spot with no boost, only a minimal gain to be had, but on the strip 0.3 of a sec can help! Not tried this out yet tho:Laugh

Martiny

I agree it would be quicker on the strip, but slower on the road.

Mind you, I cant see why you would drop below 4.5 k on the strip anyway?

andyroi

only slower on the road if you drive between 2200 and 3000(ish) i would think. Agree on the 2nd point, maybe something to do with how they spool on gear changes? not sure. Anyway, definately something id do again to my car, drives so much nicer

Martiny

Yep agreed, below 4K, the standard setup will spool up much quicker. For me, it makes overtaking and the like, a pleasure. I can see the rationale behind non-seq for the track/strip.

Hi..

I had this done last week along with a re-map down at hayward rotary.

The car is very different to drive and after the instant response of the normal sequential set up it takes a little getting used to.

Now ive done around 300 miles since having it done and i love it.Ok you have to drop down a gear (or 2) to overtake quickly but so what.
The power is just awsome when it all comes alive at around 4500rpm..(now i see why you single guys love it).

The car is alot louder though espacially on tickover which for me is not so good as my neighbours moan.

I drove it for the first time after the mod in the rain tonight and its alot easier to control on corners etc..no suden drop in power then a kick as the 2nd turbo comes in its just nice smooth power all the way through.

A big thank you to the guys at hayward they really were so good to fit me in and looked after me etc..cheers guys.
