hi all,
ive read up on this a bit but wondered if anyone here has put one together or has advice on a weber with a blow thorugh turbo
its very simular to the janspeed turbo set up, but mine will have a weber 45 side draft, possibly IC set up
i already have a top hat for the weber
apart from turbo and manifold what else do i need?

thanks

I have a Janspeed, we were just about to get the carb set up before my father put it \'off the road\' for the time being, needing front end repairs. :2Rolleyes When its put back on the road I am strongly considering going for injection with a microtech ECU.

The blow through carb is quite crude, quite frankly I would talk to Tim at RX Motors about doing an injection conversion rather than the webber. Im a strong believer in Carb for NA, injection for turbo.

just toying with the idea really the RX7 is a 3rd car in the household so is\'nt a daily driver, hoping to get a series 3 at some point to give me the turbo injection set up just want to be a bit different and read some good results on Ausrotory

ps that janspeed must be rare i know theres another on here do you have any pictures?
i have some front end parts if you need them

Yes its very rare, luckily I have a spare front bumper so I can repair it. Its really nice and was going to be my daily drive until my dad \'damaged\' it. I mjust waiting to get rid of some of the big jobs from the garage so we can bring it over. Its going to get a stripped to the metal restoration so it wont be back on the road for a long time. Ill dig you out some pictures.

This could be a really good project! Carb turbos can go really hard if done correctly and there are a few in Oz running in the tens (certain orange RX-3 sedan with S4 RX-7 bonnet scoop comes to mind, 9.85 or something?). Do a search on ausrotary and //www.rotahavik.co.nz (here\'s a recent thread http://www.rotahavik.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=20213) and i\'m sure you\'ll get some advice.
Got any pics of the top hat? I\'d like to have a squiz!

Keep it old school !!!! :god

that where ive been getting most my info from ist not been tried to many times but as you say the results seem good, just dont see the point in putting a s6 twin turbo engine into a nice series 1 (certianly without a cage)
would rather look at what tunners were using at the time, i had a renualt 5 turbo i rebuilt before so i have a rough idea of how it all works

I know where your coming from. Trouble is in the UK getting bits for carbs is such a sh1t in my experience, I guess the rotary turbo scene is just better set up for injection in the UK, imho anyway. Personally I would forget the carbs, go for a half bridge and go for NA old skool carb power :)

mpk490p

i know, didnt really think about it at the time and only had the engine street ported dont really want to pull it apart as its only done 6k but the turbo should make good power dont want to go silly 200bhp will do lovely

The Janspeed is meant to make 200bhp. Its a 12a. It has been rebuilt though with clearanced low compression rotors so it can take more boost, quite frankly it was quite pitiful when I last drove it, felt more like 90bhp than 200! It will be fab when its done.

why not a draw through set up??? that way you could get the turbo re-built with the correct seal in it and put a lovely weber infront of the turbo?
Otherwise you might actually be better off asking some of the vw as they get very good results from blow through set ups.
 cheers, michael.

i think the elford\'s only quoted 125bhp thats a big jump on a 12a what size turbo is it?

Michael,
i have seen these set ups but not sure of the pros and cons agaist each really like i say just toying with ideas at the mo
hows the project going?

moggy progress is really slow of late. Not as much importance to finish  it as quickly as I wont be able to run at RS4 but that is fine.
I am running a 12a turbo though. Currently making an adaptor plate to match up turbo II inlet manifold etc to the 12a block. That way I can run the turbo II intercooler as a top mount and also the throttle body and the factory injectors.

Actually 160bhp according to the official brochure. They use a Garret T3 turbo on a very modest 6 psi. I know you can still get the rebuild kit for the Elford brand new off the shelf. Why not use a 12A carb like the guy has on rotahavik? He\'s running 12 psi iirc!!! Plenty of options anyways.

bit of a update on this, the weber is running great on the car, i have got a better turbo hat now so i can get the feed in from back over the carb rather than going a long way round, looking at a modified 12a manifold (goes around the steering rack) with s4 turbo, does anyone know what sort of pressure i can put through on standard rotors? were the elford turbo rotors modified as i understand there are different rotors for turbo models

thanks
