My car is registered as a 2.6, but it is really a 1.3 so is there anyway to change it with the dvla?? I want cheaper road tax!!!! :)

rx7veilside

the answer is no and has been covered loads of times the car has been registered and nothing short of a letter from mazda uk stating it is a 1.3 will alter that..all uk rx7s were 2.6 and registered as such and the imports depended on who imported them.so u are stuck with a 2.6 i am afraid

I\'m sure its been done mate, there was thread about it on FDUK if I remember rightly they needed a letter from pip.

dont think they did as pip is only a tuner and dvla wont accept anything less than from manufacturer and am not aware of anyone getting it changed..if he does a search he wont finf anyone who got it changed..alan did u check ur paypal sent the money yesterday..thks

Write a letter to mazda asking them what the official capacity of a 13b-rew is.

Anything mroe than 1308cc is a lie.  It even says under the bonnet "2x654cc"

Bobfish, it\'s not about actual capacity it\'s about fitting the RX into a like-for-like tax bracket in terms of output and emissions.

Bobfish

I agree mullins, but the V5 states "capacity" and not theoretical capacity and its based on that.

so therefore your well within your rights to register it as a 1308.

Static capacity vs opertaing capacity is what makes the 13b a 2.6 for tax purposes :)

(mine\'s a 1.3 though!)

Because the V5 wasn\'t designed with rotaries in mind! With piston engines the capacity and the output are on par. I agree 1.3 is correct but i\'m sure the dvla know why it\'s done like this and wont budge.

Forgot to mention, Rotaries are penelised like this in racing classes too.

^ Probably the simpliest explanation i\'ve heard yet.

Anyway is there much difference in price of the tax disc?

Less than the price of a tank of fuel.  I guess most people running a FD would object on principle rather than the financial reality.

I managed to \'persuade\' the DVLA to change mine, took some copies of original sales broshures and after several refusals they eventually changed the taxation class for me, this was about 2 years ago:3gears-lh

When you get an engine rebuild could you get it \'rebuilt as a 1.3\'???  with a letter from whoever built it ;)

I wrote to the DLVA about this a couple of months ago with tech specs/manuals etc. They said they are reviewing how (all) rotary engines are classified and that they would not classify mine as a 1.3.

I\'ll dig out their official response if you want.
