The first of many questions as the strip-down begins...
Anyone know if the tank on a 1984 has a drain plug?  Haynes says not, but there certainly looks like one right underneath the tank towards the front near-side.  Thought I\'d better check before I cranked it open!:)
Anything to be careful of when removing the tank?
Thanks
Dave

if its a 84 gen1 then it will have a drain plug as you said:Thumbsup!
has your tank gone rotten? or is it just strip down?
watch out for all the years of crap that will no dought fall in your eye, you will then rub it with hands soaked in petrol! i would undo the brackets nearest the front of the car that way when she is ready to come out you can put you legs under the tank with a box and undo the straps from the back, put the tank on a box and disconect the fuels lines, the filler should come out in one go if you undo it from inside the flap from memory

Thanks Mark, that should make it quicker than syphoning!
Tank looks alright and no leaks prior to car being laid up; this is just the first step in a stripdown, assess, repair and rebuild job.:2Rolleyes
Learn as I go; I\'ve already bought the mig welder; as you\'ve seen a few of these I\'m sure you\'ll believe me when I say it\'ll need it.  Money-pit, here I come...

Yes, we can only run with 3/4 of a tank because it stinks the garage out if it\'s full. I suppose a tank change is coming. Anyone know where\'s the best place to source a new tank, assuming they can be got.

Thanks for that. I\'ve got a rusty old spare but \'he\' deserves better. The car\'s a \'he\' by the way. Guz is his name.

fair play but you tend to find they are all rusty now!
i was lucky mine sat in a barn for 12 years so it was nice and dry, it was then wax oiled and had all the bushes replaced, i think the owner then passed on or just couldnt work on it anymore, it was sold on and the guy had the engine for a rx3 and i picked up the shell (with a auto box!)
p.s hope i didnt offened him!
